I have been told if you simply show up they let you in but others have told me might have to pay this year. Worse comes to worse I guess I'll just register.

Gucci Loafers posted:Have any goons been to Fontainebleau yet? What's the verdict? And does anyone know the best way to get into CES? Do I really just a need a tech related employer? I've not stayed at it, but I've been to Fontainebleau and I liked it. It has a good color scheme, blues, creams, gold. It's cavernous with high and tall ceilings which opens the space up which to me is a good thing. Beautiful chandeliers and bar areas underneath. You do have to walk a bit around to get to each restaurant or location but it's not too bad. There are two rideshare areas North and South. It has a lot of slot machines and gaming areas. I'm told the owners are based in or have an influence from Miami for it. One thing to note is that the Uber drivers don't get the right messaging for pick up, they're sent to the wrong location which is nowhere close to your pick up location so that needs to be fixed. I got lucky and got a driver who had experience with that so he picked me up from the right location while other people were waiting forever. Their food court has the standard burgers, pizza, sandwiches, etc. all at higher Vegas pricing and a croissant is around $8. I imagine some people may say it reminds them of a mall with long escalators. When I return, I intend to try Mother Wolf.

My wife and I are going to Vegas at the end of March. We more or less have our whole trip planned out, but we weren't sure about a couple of things: Is there a "best" Cirque de Soleil show? We're leaning towards O because of the water tank being a cool gimmick, but any recommendations for a different one? Is Penn and Teller worth it or should we check out a different magic show?

I can’t give comparisons against other Cirque shows and I’m not anything near a Beatles fan but loved their show. Child labor laws be damned.

Penn and Teller was great live, and Piff's energy and humor is amazing. The Piff show I saw with some other goons during the FFXIV Fanfest weekend started to go off the rails multiple times when some audience volunteer stuff went a little wacky, and the way he was able to get things back on track with improv jokes was both hilarious and insanely skilful

Another recommendation for Penn and Teller here, hopefully it being in the Rio won't be a massive downside for too much longer.

It was over a decade ago, but count me as another that enjoyed the Penn and Teller show. So did my folks, who I went with. It's a pretty good mix of magic, jokes, and storytelling, and they came off quite likeable. The only thing I can say (at least from my long ago experience) is that if you are looking for a fast-paced show, this isn't it. To me that's fine, I really liked it, but don't go in expecting non-stop action and constant flash. Myself, I got what I expected and then some, but just throwing that out there. +1 would go again.

I went in late 2021 and whilst I guess it could have gotten worse (would have to get pretty imaginative though) their theatre at the back is fine, my main issue was getting there from the Strip when there is no other reason to go over there. The new ownership has taken over though and it probably only got so bad because Caesar's knew they were parting with it. I gather updates started in August and some rooms have been renovated for what it's worth, although I've not heard of any changes for the casino floor or wider resort.

industry secret: the lowest bowels of the Flamingo still uses the original concrete escape tunnels bugsy seigel had made so he could escape if the mob ever made an attempt on his life on the property. the exit is found in a hidden staircase near the bird sanctuary. the space is used mostly for restaurant storage and the main a/v room that controls all the tv sets on the casino floor.

I think Wynn owns that and keeps saying they will build "Wynn West" there. The only other place I heard discussed was the Rio. I think Trop is the only Strip resort I've not been in (not counting Fountainbleu as I've not been since it opened) I think it just badly needed a refresh, and even being on that crossroads with MGM Grand, Excalibur and NYNY I think it just felt like a nuisance to go to as if you're going south from there Trop puts you on the wrong side to keep going down to Luxor and Mandalay. That's why I didn't go anyway.

Never stayed at Tropicana but played there and had dinner there. It's an okay place that has suffered through some of the worst management in the 2000s, and attempts to revitalize it by later owners were moderately successful but a bit like trying to close the barn doors after the horses had already escaped. Specifically they tried adding celebrity chefs and a nightclub to a mid-market old hotel that was given a facelift after being a bit of a vomitorium for ten years previously and watched those ideas fizzle. It's one of those cases not where it doesn't make money, but it doesn't make enough money, because it's not the right people's money. It's a fine place to do Vegas on a budget, but nobody who owns a casino wants to be the headquarters for people doing Vegas on a budget stay at, they want to be the place those people walk through before returning to somewhere else. If you can't attract nepo-babies spending inherited money then close up, basically. It's sad because the Miami vibe kind of works for it, and it's one of the last deep old pools and even offers the property's historical swim-up blackjack at times. Personally I expect it to just sit empty for a while. The owners don't really have the capital to build their dream replacement, as they're struggling to build a resort in Chicago that was supposed to be the money engine for this. It's going to be one of those Atlantic City things where a place sits and rots and is eventually sold to someone who gets it reopened again. Man, it seems like such a bad idea to build a baseball stadium at the end of the strip like that. It's already a pain in the rear end to drive, baseball games are like 140 times a year or something ridiculous and a lot of those are going to be home games. Isn't that also the main exit for the airport?

Uber Premier SUVs are all over and like $50 from the airport to the strip. Decent quality IME, tend to be Suburbans/Escalades, mostly good drivers. Don’t do the regular Premier though, for some reason Uber considers a Tesla model 3 a “premier” vehicle in Vegas which is some bullshit. I don’t think even Premier is allowed to do curbside pickup at the terminal, but otherwise the rideshare pickup area is a pretty smooth experience. Omega mart was cool but I wish the people I went with were more into it. I wanted to take my time and go through all the clues and background materials but everyone else just wanted to keep going We also did the immersive Arte museum thing at Aria. A bit short for what you pay but it was still a fun break from all the usual vegas stuff. Imgur still isnt working on the app so I can't show pics, but its a lot of visual illusion type stuff The above restaurant Crust and Roux was pretty good if you don't mind a heavy meal. I'd recommend getting the seafood roux pizza with the crab and/or the chicken pot pie. The other stuff was still alright but those two were really good

I am due for a vacation and I've always wanted to go to Las Vegas, so I'm thinking I'll do that. I know I want to do three things -- I want to see Penn and Teller and the Cirque du Soleil Beatles show, and I want to go to Omega Mart. Otherwise, I don't know poo poo. I am eager for suggestions on good places to stay, places I should eat, and a good time to go -- is early April too short notice? I'd like to get there before summer comes to the desert. And very eager for anything else I should do while I'm there, based on the three things I know I want to do. For the record, I am not a gambler, though I figure I'll do a bit of gambling just because I'm in Las Vegas. But it's not a major draw for me. Also, with regard to Omega Mart and Area15 in general -- so an Omega Mart ticket gets me in, and then what? Can I stay for as long as I want? And how much more of Area15 is worth doing; in other words, what level of Area15 ticket should I get and how much of a day should I be planning to spend there?
