The Blue Jays are going to be so unbelievably average with no real goal they seem to be working toward and I think that might make them harder to watch than the early 2000s teams that had fun players sucking poo poo game after game.

I just read a book about this and it seems that job security means having to move every few months and never knowing if you will have a job.

look, when you can get a 29 year old backup catcher with a career .500 ops you have to pull the trigger

The move in a vacuum is fine: Gomes is 36 and Amaya can't spend five seconds without tripping and falling onto the IL, so why not grab a backup catcher off waivers who has minor league options that you can hold as depth.

Within the context of the rest of the Cubs' offseason though, it's extremely dire. This is their first addition involving a major-league player.

Furthermore, in the extract, Franco recognizes that the young woman is just a girl, he even asks her to let herself be raised by him in her own way, when she is there she demands him.

I saw this from the ESPN article about the Franco case

quote:

A judge on Friday ordered the conditional release of Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco while he is investigated for allegations he had a relationship with a 14-year-old girl and gave her mother a car and thousands of dollars in exchange for her consent, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press.

The judge said Franco is allowed to leave the Dominican Republic but must return once a month to meet with authorities. He also was ordered to pay 2 million Dominican pesos ($34,000) as a type of deposit as the investigation continues.

Cubs please sign Imanaga. And banish Bauer to the phantom zone.

And I am glad there is a hard time line on him. He has until the 11th to sign.

I can't help but feel that part of the reason that Bauer is the way he is comes from how he was bullied since he went about training as a pitcher so differently (like the shoulder tube and long toss). Coaches and teammates (like fellow cheater Gerrit Cole) were lovely to him because he was different. That doesn't excuse him from being the piece of poo poo he is now. Just another example that bullying and abuse just breeds more bullies and abusers.

Also, MLB should lifetime ban Wander Franco. Yikes.

It started off when he was a kid. Baseball Doesn't Exist released a pretty good breakdown of Bauer after 2021

He might have been an rear end in a top hat as a kid, but him getting bullied probably made it worse.

Which lovely pitcher winning the cy young was stupider? robbie ray or rick porcello?

TheFlyingLlama

Porcelllo basically stole his Cy Young from a far more deserving verlander because "wins", Robbie Ray had a career year, and either deserved the Cy young outright (bbref war) or was at least within 1.5 WAR of the top pitcher in his league (fangraphs)

it's not really close

I thought he was okay as well until I looked at his stats. He was signed for 5yrs/$90m and provided 0.6 fWAR in his first year.

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/masataka-yoshida/31837/stats?position=DH/OF

He's projected to do a bit better next year (1.6 fWAR), but that's not what you'd hope for from your OF/DH.
