I didn't see what you're referencing but I saw some ref type point out that grounding is one of the more technically difficult calls, which is why the flag comes out so late every time.

Was he in the pocket, if he was out of the pocket did the ball make it back to the line of scrimmage, was he under pressure? Was the ball tipped? In any way was there some eligible receiver in the area. Which is all different refs looking at different things so they need to huddle up and talk it through.

(none of this excuses anything of course because half of us can identify grounding when we see it immediately, or if we don't we see it on replay when they're talking it over and know one way or the other)
