Few questions about my favorite arc with Davey Scatino: -if he’d magically obtained $45k within 24 hours of leaving the game, would he be square with Tony or would the vig still apply? -why was it necessary for Paulie to bribe the local cops to ignore the Executive Game? It’s not advertised & seems just to be a few men quietly in a motel suite for maybe 48 hours at most, without an unusual number of cars leaving or arriving & no drugs or even anyone drunk. Only thing I can think of might be noise complaints on Silvio & Richie for yelling but would guess they have the neighboring rooms empty. -once the bust out is underway can we assume Tony & Richie aren’t really keeping track of what they’re making debt wise and are just taking everything? Guessing either they get more than his debt and are happy or realize there’s nothing left & aren’t gonna escalate to taking his house or remaining cars.

The trick is most folks who play can't pay it off right away. -If I remember right the only legal gambling in New Jersey at that time was in casinos so the Executive Game was illegal, strictly speaking. -They're not. They're just there to grab anything they can until the credit lines run out which was probably more than 45K but on the upside Davey gets to keep everything attached and unbroken.

Ah makes sense thanks. Even though Frank Jr. says he’s settle up next time he plays I’d assume he’s operating under completely different, vig free, loan rules as Tony knows he good for it & he brings incredible prestige to the table & makes it more likely whales show up. Guessing if he demanded immediate payment Tony would get it but also Frank Jr. would never show up again.

The executive game scam collapses any time you try to apply any sort of logic to it. It always comes up and people always make the mistake of trying to make sense of it. Just black box it and enjoy Silvio yelling about cheese instead, much more enjoyable experience.

Yeah, having famous people like Sinatra, Lawrence Taylor, David Lee Roth, etc there is worth much more than the fact that you’re probably not making much from them. They bring in the players you will be able to squeeze.

They don't NEED to loan shark at the executive game to make money, but if some idiot stumbles into it and they can take advantage, well sure they will.

No, man, the other players are guys who A) know what they're doing and B) can cover their poo poo and as such have an open invitation to be window dressing for a revolving cast of degenerate gamblers who want a big-money game. The degenerates lose predictably and then have the hooks in them. Think about it: you have three high rollers who need no credit and, as such, when one wins they take 75% player money and 25% Scatino-tier money. With their big pockets they can and will reliably outlast Scatinos which is their purpose. That 25% mob money on the line is Scatino's credit which will pay the mob exponential interest in perpetuity. It's a completely set-up win-win for the house and the clincher is that the mark absolutely begs to be indebted. Tony got a couple hundred grand in laundered goods and credit and Scatino's entire life in that one 36-hour game, and how many other degenerates were coming in and out? What did Tony mean that if Davey had won, Tony would be singing the blues? Wasn’t all the money at stake from the players with the house taking a rake no matter who’s winning? Even if Davey had somehow busted out the other players & repaid Tony, Tony wouldn’t have taken a loss like if they were running blackjack or roulette. Related question, would Tony probably not let Paulie or Silvio borrow excessively to keep gambling, or would they have enough sense to not ask & only lose what they brought? Would guess Tony might like the controlling aspect but not how it would make them more likely to steal or have incentive to want him dead.

And yes, the house would get a percentage of winnings to hedge all possible outcomes. Davey going on a lucky streak would only cost those other well-heeled players their own money and Davey would still pay a percentage to the mob. And with a win, Davey will be back next week with alot more cockiness and go in even more before losing it. Heads I win, tails you lose. My issue with it is that it's built up within the show as this high take enterprise. Meanwhile there's like 5-6 mob guys there for three guys, one of which is Frank Sinatra Jr who is probably there to impress and drag in the other guys. It seems very small time for the amount of high level guys involved, and that's before the fact that Roberts Patrick's character really wasn't supposed to be involved. People obviously disagree though so I could be completely in the wrong 🤷🏼♂️ F1DriverQuidenBerg fucked around with this message at 06:34 on Jan 8, 2024 |

For some of the celebrities, they get as much thrill hanging out with the mob guys as the mob guys get from them having them around. Also it's a safe, low-key private environment where your needs will be attended to regardless of legality.
