gimme the GOD drat candy posted:i don't think the main relationship really worked at all. he just acted like he was her dad 99% of the time. Absolutely, it wasn't great in terms of power dynamics. Still, at least there was a focus on both sides complementing each other. Thus why I'll admit it's not a shining beacon of romance or anything. You'd get way more out of, say, a Macross love triangle in that respect. I'm kinder towards the show, comparatively, because of the Kimura designs and how it (plus Nanoha) got me out of a Kiminozo-induced slump way back in the ancient year of 2003. wielder fucked around with this message at 05:35 on Jan 8, 2024 |

Anna is great and if Mira was the lead it would be a much worse series. The main pairing in Godannar isn't great but all of the best moments involving it are when Go tries to be The Brave Stoic Sacrificial Man of the House and Anna basically tells him to shut the gently caress up and stop trying to shoulder everything alone.

they would be fine if it wasn't for the age gap, I think. that makes it weird. they otherwise do seem like they are a decent couple that will grow into a strong one over time and compliment each other. they don't really dig much into their feelings re: being newlyweds that keep having more sudden household members either which is perhaps a missed opportunity but yeah with the age gap....maybe for the best.

At the risk of having a Bad Opinion I was listening to the GaoGaiGar OP and when I read the lyrics it struck me that it was the equivalent of 90s and early 2000s North American anime intros that either shout the name of the show repeatedly or slip into Plot Summary Lyrics.

In that case, Shizuru is a much more compelling character than Mira, yeah, and her relationship with Go is more interesting, so you could probably make something work there. I think I'd still miss Anna, though. A big role of hers in the plot is that everyone else is willing to make heroic sacrifices and make The Hard Choices and Anna's there to show up and call them all stupid morons for trying to make those heroic sacrifices instead of figuring out another way. Brave series was always a kids show aimed at real young kids aged 3 to 5 so this makes perfect sense and even though it didn't end as a kids show no point changing the style for Final

I didn't say it was bad, just that it reminded me of something like the Canadian DBZ intro that is just shouting Dragon Ball Zeeeeeeeee on repeat. My Bad Opinion warning was more comparing an OP to the rather maligned (with notable exceptions) late 90s practice of ditching the original song for a usually pretty bad new intro tune. It's funny to me to realize that those old English intros weren't actually too far off the mark.

Also Albegas, Medarot Damashii(which had been previously announced but had to be delayed for a while because they realized it had never been given an official English title separate from just being season three of the dubbed version, so they had to get an approved English name, which is Medabots Spirit), and the remaining seasons of Sgt Frog

I'll admit my favorite Mazinger thing is Mazinkaizer SKL, which is more "What if Mazinger Z was Getter Robo", and I'm always game for that. (As contrasted with the anime for Getter Robo Go, which was "What if Getter Robo was Mazinger?") Just two absolute psychos smashing their way through an island full of bandit warlords as the one surviving technical specialist tries to keep them in line enough to let her do her job of saving the world from exploding.

The real problem with Shin is that the first OP is so good it totally overshadows the second OP, which is unfair because the second OP is quite good.

The loss of the crabstick subs is a loss of a great way to appreciate old mazinger tbh. the plots are basic enough that you can understand everything even when the subs are nonsense, and the nonsense elevates it
