I still remember ostensibly left wing people trying to convince me to give South Park another shot, no really, it’s funny still, they have this new character called pc principal who is really fun

And who could have thunk that the lessons people took away from this foundational show in their formative adolescent years might not be the most positive and beneficial ones

The fact that a character like cartman was treated in a positive light at all should have been a huge warning sign.

I remember the neverending arguments about that back in the early 2000s, which would result in the South Park fan indicating one of three episodes where cartman got punished

Now if I am gonna blame a Comedy Central tv show for anything more directly, it’s blaming South Park for making a whole generation of dumbfuck dudes default to “both sides are dumb and bad and the answer is somewhere in the middle”, which made them ripe for the picking by fashy assholes

South Park's Eric Cartmen was the answer to: how do we get 'All in Family's' Archie bunker on television again.

Television always had this right-wing bent to all of its programming. But if anybody brought it up, they would be called crazy.

It's kind of the nice thing about the internet. Things are more stark.

Trump losing in 2024 doesn’t mean its over. The veil has been pulled back and the GOP knows how to energize and sync with a base to get them into office and power. Trump will try again until his dying days, and once he’s gone, there will be another ghoul in his place.

The MAGA crowd demands a leader - they’ve seen how far they can really get with their riots and intimidations in other parts of the country. Someone will lead that crowd, they will be here forever because it took one giant idiot to push “stolen election” and “fake news” forward as excuses for loses rather than actual demographics defeating them and verifiable truths.

The U.S. government is like living in a house where there are no locks on the doors or windows - it’s easy for someone to get in and stay there and make a mess. It’s going to be a constant vigil to keep them out.

Or maybe it goes the other way once Trump is convicted and sent to prison and cries like a dog, or when he passes away, everyone just moves on and the whole MAGA movement passes like a fart in the wind. Who knows! Just go out and loving vote like it’ll be the last time, because it just might.

I'm a few pages behind and haven't caught up but I don't think the GOP or even MAGA will be as cohesive as it is now it Trump loses.

Some of his supporters will see it as the system being rigged so why bother with politics? The rest of the base will say Trump can't win anymore and it's time for a new face. That's not even taking into consideration his age by 2028.

Once Trump is gone (dead/convicted/jailed/comatose vegetable) do you really think there is ONE person MAGA will align behind. poo poo if the only two contenders were MTG and Stank (easy to remember which is which because EriChoad) there would still be a huge schism.

That being said, the DNC or maybe a grassroots movement needs to push for an "Onward and Upward" movement or even new party (or caucus like 2010 tea party) to focus on energizing younger people as well as push a strong ground game for local and state level offices.

That's the only way to ensure GOP entrenchment doesn't continue to especially with Gerrymandering and pushed local and state laws that hamper democracy.

But we're already seeing breaks in the GOP in Minnesota, the House speaker stuff, as well as many state GOPs dealing with bankruptcy (all money is now going to Trump). I'm more concerned about Dems not stepping up and moving on, setting laws in place that we never have to deal with another aspiring tyrant like this again

Edit: gently caress, could have scrolled down to the next 5 to 10 posts and saved myself the trouble

As a kid I think South Park did kind of show me that gay people, even the ones that dress or act in ways that seem funny to normal people, should still accepted and aren't a threat to children.

I could have also gotten that message from that Simpsons episode that came out like 3 years before South Park and would have had better animation, but Simpsons wasn't out on DVD yet.

True, that would require chuds to watch entire episodes lol.

EDIT: Chuds would also have hated Carroll O'Connor. He seemed to be well loved by everyone and did not share Archie Bunker's views at all.

SCIENCE

I thought of something a while ago. Everyone’s tossing around the “gotcha” of “if the Supreme Court rules presidents are immune to crimes then can’t Biden just drone strike trump and the justices lololol”

But in reality we know that democrats are the party of :decorum: that believes in civility and the rule of law and (largely) are not violent terrorists.

Republicans on the other hand would absolutely seize the chance to freely commit crimes against their opponents and minorities. (EDIT: see the article about Stone above)

So what happens if the SC calls this bluff and rules all presidents are immune to crimes, knowing that Biden wouldn’t exercise this immunity but the next chud president will?

I guess the only thing to give them pause is concern about the legitimacy of the court, or the idea that letting chud presidents break the law could potentially be used against them personally (in addition to, you know, being horrible and undemocratic, but that hasn’t really stopped them before).

my issue with South Park is that it makes LGBT people into caricatures and goes "yes these people are disgusting abominations that have been the butt of the joke for 20 minutes, but isn't tolerance about tolerating people different than you, we should be more tolerant"
i don't like the implied messaging that me and people like me are disgusting but it's actually okay that we are disgusting
