Technically no president has been a wartime president since WWII since Congress hasn't declared war since then Mainly because they just call it a military action or whatever and Congress ceded all its war powers to the executive which, lol

Nelson Mandingo posted:It should be pretty obvious that Trump's crimes were fundamentally committed as an act of self-service and enrichment. Barack Obama drone striking a bunch of weddings was a pathetic crime and awful but the intention was dictated by bad intelligence and dumb political ideology pressures, not his re-election campaign and future speaker fees. It's much simpler than that, regardless of how gross it is, we have decided that extra-judicial killings are necessary in pursuing the national security interests of the US and the President as commander and chief of the military absolutely has the authority to order them, so he is acting within the scope of his duties. There is no duty or role for the president to be involved in a state election, the operation of presidential elections is specifically defined as a state controlled operation. Trump keeps banging against this wall, it's simply not within the scope of his job.

Remember when the debate about caged children at the border became clogged by “but really, who’s to say what constitutes a concentration camp” hot takes throughout the media? If there’s a second civil war soon (as I’ve been assured by notable expert Pim Tool) it’ll take months after it got hot before the mainstream media will concede that the indiscriminate slaughter of people by chud militia groups constitutes a break with American ideals.

China not only has a very large and highly secure embassy in Washington DC, they have a highly secure 130 unit apartment building specifically to provide accommodations for their embassy, they have absolutely no interest in using a US government owned building for diplomatic operations besides paying off Trump. I know they were trying to unload it but I believe the Chinese Government still owns the Four Seasons in D.C.

I dismissed it at the time because I don't see Johnson agreeing to work with Dems for anything. It would weaken him more than he already is. On the other hand, if those guys are going in there to pound his desk and threaten to oust him, there would be many LOLs for him to say to go ahead and try because he's got the support of the Dems and they can't get enough votes against him to counter that.

This would be hilarious if Dems save Johnson then Republicans are going to lose their minds. Personally I think Johnson is on his way out and probably before the end of Jan. He'll avoid a shutdown at the cost of his speakership

This is exactly the poo poo that got Democrats to vote out McCarthy. The constant deal-making and then reneging is what dooms them, not just going against their party. The democrats are willing to vote to save a Speaker who actually keeps their word. With him having a deal with Democrats and then killing it, he's guaranteeing either a shut-down or a motion to vacate. The democrats are NOT going to vote for any deal the Republicans propose.

A potential wrinkle for HFC is that Johnson believes he is chosen by God for leadership. So if he needs to cut a deal with Dems to maintain that position, it is by-definition the correct thing for him to do and no threats by HFC can change that.
