First album (on tape) was Weird Al - Dare To Be a Stupid

Guerilla Radio single. Dumb teenager me thought it was a great deal for just a few bucks but was disappointed when there was only a couple songs on it. Great songs though.

Not sure I agree with it, but the old rule of thumb I'd heard from music heads was that if an album had at least four tunes on it you really vibed to, it was worth purchasing over the couple of singles. Makes sense monetarily I guess, and the other tunes might grow on you (or, as a DJ, find their place in a set).

Of course that's another thing that's basically out the window with the advent of the streaming model.

A college friend had the ELO Time LP, which I played so many times on his stereo he complained I was wearing out his needle. So of course that was the first.

I randomly had Fat of the Land in my computer the first time I played Quake. I was AMAZED at how great the game's soundtrack was. Even after figuring out my mistake, I kept going back to this.

I had the wipeout xl cd in my tray one day while playing quake and the soundtrack fit so well I just played with that music from then on.

Mine was Lincoln. Ha I’m old.
I bought that along with Dead Milkmen’s Beelzebubba when I got my first CD player.

I wish I still had my old CDs. When I was in college some rear end in a top hat broke in to my apartment and stole my entire rack of CDs. I can’t imagine they got much money for them but I had a decent collection of some hard to find poo poo.

Daft Punk's Homework. Either Around The World or Da Funk had just come out and it was such a new sound for me. Found myself with a few extra paper route dollars and we had just gotten our very first cd/cassette deck at home. Had to record the cd to tape to put on my walkman. ahh simpler times.
The first mp3 I ever downloaded though was Foo Fighters' Monkey Wrench.

Bit of a cheat but my first CD single was actually two purchases at the same time.

Seen it played either on Naked City or TotP, can't recall which but either way, it was a proper 'road to Damascus' moment and I rushed out the next day to nab one.

A touching, thoughtful and tastefully done song about a teenager trying to tell his best mate that he's been shagging his mum.

As for first CD album:

IDGAF, it shits all over Different Class and you will never change my mind on this. Never. 'Babies' and 'Do You Remember The First Time' = GOAT.

Purchased together in 1988 from a local CD specialty shop. The owner was very vocal about CD's being the future, and had signs in the store saying not to ask about special orders for vinyl or cassette, as this was a CD business. He was a jerk.
