Yea I literally just applied for global entry and the capital one card I have is supposed to reimburse me for the cost. I already have precheck, but I’m planning to travel to Canada this summer, so I figured might as well get global entry. Wish I had done this in 2017 when coming back from Martinique.

Global Entry makes coming back to the US an absolute dream. I remember one time flying Costa Rica-Miami and seeing the customs line stretching aaaaallllll the way down the hallway, and then the GE line is like 6 people deep. I was through in like 90 seconds.

No injuries were reported, and the subjects fled the scene, according to police.

I knew a dude who killed someone in a fight but it was clear cut self defense. I also know a couple guys who served with the commando regiment and another who worked with the SAS so for sure they killed a bunch of people. I'm also like 90% sure one of my friends crazy brothers who used to rob bikie gangs of drugs and cash who I would guess has probably dropped a few people but I don't really know him, only met him twice.

I think only the latter qualifies as murder though.

I represented a murderer, post-trial, post-appeal, pre-resentencing. He was 18 and had just become an Eagle Scout when he tried to impress some friends by helping them rob a taxi driver, but then shot the guy in the back of the head afterwards for no discernible reason. The friends flipped on him, his own parents were basically forced to testify against him, just all around lovely situation.

I vaguely knew a girl in high school who beat her abusive father to death. He was asleep and she beat him with a baseball bat. She was 14 at the time. Luckily, she just got probation and counseling and I remember she came back to school a couple years later.

All chronic maladies are invariably unbearable at 3am or just as the bottom falls out.

Couple that with the predictable flood of unhoused folks borrowing phones to call for shortness of breath or chest pain coincidentally when it starts raining or the temp drops…..

My mother used to interview death row inmates as a forensic psych in the late 80s-early 90s. It was stressful, mentally haunting work that had her hearing all kinds of horrifying stories; at one point Henry Lee Lucas was rumored to be active in our area and she came to work every day afraid that she was gonna have to interview him. There were no physical barriers separating her from any of the inmates and it would've been very easy for one of them to injure or kill her if they wanted to.

Our public transit is pretty miserable and I totally get trying to get off the street but we don’t have enough loving ambulances to run the actual emergencies. These types of calls put an appreciable strain on our system whenever the weather changes. It’s very predictable—all the parks and abandoned banks and poo poo ping calls when it starts raining hard, or gets windy or cold at all. And i know most of those folks by name, and have memorized most of their birthdates. It’s loving inappropriate.

Particularly when the hospital is going to street them in under 90min anyways.

A girl I was friends with in elementary and middle school's boyfriend murdered a girl while they were together. My friend ended up being falsely implicated as an accessory in the murder and spent almost 10 years in prison before being exonerated.

I'm leaving out a lot of details that make this story a whole lot worse. I see that friend on Facebook from time to time and she's basically still piecing her life back together. I think she's married now but I could be wrong.

My school didn't have famous murders. It had a curse.

We were the first students at Challenger Junior High. As we started getting bumped off, the word spread that it wouldn't end until seven of us were dead before graduation. Becky (can't remember her last name) got her spine severed when her boyfriend did an illegal U-turn in a Suzuki Samurai and they got t-boned. Andy Skidmore hung himself. Jacob Silva plowed his mom's station wagon into the side of a flatbed trailer and got a to-the-shoulders haircut. (Rest in Piss- he was a bullying piece of poo poo) Dennis H burned to death in his VW van, possibly from suicide, possibly from owning a VW van.

I left Cali after 10th grade. Good luck with that poo poo, chumps!

For me nothing interesting ever happened at my 'bad' school (read, 65% minority), but we had to go through a security gate and deal with cops on the ground. This is before Columbine or anything, we were just bad for attending this public school. We had a goddamned metal detector back then.

There were some fights and all of the teenage bullshit you'd expect, but from what I witnessed they were all broken up by the old rear end gym teacher with cauliflower ears who could wrestle any dumbass kid to the ground in an instant and everything was fine. Then the off? on? duty cops would show up to try to bully people.

My education was more or less fine, I liked most of my teachers, I learned things. Just...yeah the crap to deal with every day.

e: I am not a parent, I am sure it's way worse now, but it was also not great back then.

I went to catholic school but I kind of went from a decent neighbourhood through lovely ones on public transport to a private school. So it meant I got to see the menagerie every day. I saw someone get stabbed when I was about 14, got attacked by some cracked out woman was I was 16 because someone sitting near me threw a wad of paper at her when she was tweaking out. Saw a dude get his face busted open with a fence paling at a house party, I also worked in demolition for a little bit when I was at university and had some dude on parole steal my lunch one day that I ended up in a down and out punch up with and busted up my thumb pretty good. My right thumb knuckle is like twice the size of the left one for some kinda medical reason.

I was once also kind of involved in some hooliganism when I was at a lovely soccer game and two slav communities who'd adopted teams ended up kicking off deluxe with flares and old country genocide beef that took like a platoon of cops to break up. I got punched in the ear trying to pick a friend of mine up in the press by a dude who thought I was trying to hurt him and my stories kind of pale in comparison to some people I know.
