Well I missed the whole countdown due to timezones but I just finished reading it all. Only got quoted once this year what a rip off! (Jk I love you VG). If we're doing the annual probations I want one for Octopath Traveler 2. #1 in my heart. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

woke up just in time to binge through it right after the finale was posted, good timing. Excellent list, though hi-fi rush not cracking the top ten is a shame, and pizza tower, well, maybe one day it'll be ported all over and people will find out The Truth. with there being ports on the horizon for hi-fi rush, hopefully more people will play it and find out what a joy it is.

Thank you VG for organizing. Thanks to all the goons that pour all that time and effort into getting each other pumped about good games. This is bar none my favorite thread on the forums every year, and if I didn’t have chronic ADHD that causes me to not finish stuff I’d post. Maybe next year I’ll share some bad opinions with everyone, but for now I’ll just say this past year and this thread were both incredible. Games are good people.

I promise to play all of these high-rated games as soon as I'm done with my 6th playthrough of BG3, this time with an Evocation Gnome Wizard instead of an Abjuration Gnome Wizard.

Arist posted:I’m not a big CRPG guy. I’ve dipped my toes into Fallout 1 and Planescape: Torment for about an hour each, but I’ve never had major experience with the genre. This is my first real entry into this space, and I’ve gotta say: it was pretty incredible. There’s something wonderful about the incredible freedom and trust in the player here by the designers, the willingness to indulge so many possibilities and to let the audience fail or screw themselves over. It’s staggering. Hell, in Act II I found the main hub and near-immediately wandered into an encounter that killed everyone in that hub when I lost a fight (I reloaded, because, wow). The game feels incredibly alive in that way, there’s just so much going on. Here you go. I liked this quote.

This thread was loads of fun as always, and I can't wait to see all the interesting stats breakdowns. But how did my own list match up? Last year I listed 5 games of the year and 5 honourable mentions, and of those, one of them made it to 51st place and none of the others placed at all. But maybe this year I'm more in tune with the goon gaming zeitgeist? lmao no (HM) Strange Horticulture: DNP (3 points) (HM) Kandria: DNP (0 points) (HM) Shadow Tactics: Aiko's Choice: DNP (0 points) (7) The Void Rains Upon Her Heart: DNP (17 points) (6) Waves of Steel: DNP (9 points) (5) Fae Tactics: DNP (6 points) (4) Ender Lilies: DNP (12 points) (3) System Shock Remake : #42 (2) Ghostrunner: DNP (10 points) (1) Cloudbuilt: DNP (10 points) Honestly, I expect this experience to continue most years, because I very rarely buy games in the year they're released and it seems like that's when most goons play them. But this thread always gives me a big stack of interesting games to watch out for in future years. bagrada posted:Bloodborne will be #1 again when they do a PC port. Maybe that's why the elden ring dlc is so delayed. Yes Bloodborne looks super rad but I'm never going to get a PS4 or PS5, so I'm going to have to wait until either they release it on PC or PS4 emulation becomes viable, and if they haven't released it yet I'm honestly not betting on which one of those happens first. Ineffiable posted:STP is probably one of the biggest surprise breakout hits I've seen this year. I know! A bunch of friends recommended it to me but they're all people with fairly niche tastes in games, so seeing it listed by so many people here was surprising. I'm stoked to play it sometime in 2026 though. wuggles posted:it's the year of the shmup. sorry but my google doc says so Not year of the shmup until Void Rains hits 1.0, IMO.
