Admire this. In the first panel, five nameless characters to help sell the situation, all doing wacky things. Action in the first panel has multiple things with the action leading us to the right. We have Wallace's wonderful actions. Then we jump from the zoomed-in, focused Wallace-energy panels with tight, colorful focus (and an impressed seagull, of course) to the open, quiet final panels where people are still for a moment for the punchline.

And, hell, there's even more jokes in there, too. "Recess 101".

Racism aside, I have no idea if it was common medical practice in the 40s for the doctor to just mail you a letter telling you you're hopelessly hosed or if this is just another Stamm invention.

While true, I give no points because the CORONA program was well underway when this was published.

It's the comic.

They would probably tell you face-to-face, either at their office or at your home. If the patient had to go a great distance for testing (the hospital in the 'big city,') it might be mailed, especially if the patient had no phone, and it would probably include a summons back to the hospital to at least provide more detail.

We need it in writing so Scarlet can find it later.

More to the point, the Soviet Luna-3 probe took photos of the dark side of the moon, developed them on board, and beamed the photos back to Earth in 1959, the same year this comic was printed.

We talk about "show don't tell" and some comics really suffer from it, but I think Monty makes good use of things happening off-panel for the classic beat between setup and punchline. Mainly because the punchline is still on-screen.

Monty has by far the ugliest art in the thread. I’m not sure how it hasn’t been axed by its syndicate.
