it's a personal memory rather than a famous politics story but I once saw a globally famous leftist intellectual speak about the history of socialism and revolution, and then during the Q&A some incredibly nerdy guy sitting on the floor near me (all the seats were full) asked him for his opinion on the DSA and the speaker was so confused and I probably audibly groaned
