Wouldn't a 6-5 soccer game be much more exciting than 1-0?

Get rid of the goals and replace them with endzones. Pass the puck to someone in the endzone? That's a double hat trick!

Line the sides of the rink with a curved steel beam so that the puck can bounce like air hockey. Remember to round off the top so you don't cut someone in half if they trip

Loblaws just announced that they’re changing the discount on discounted produce (aka Eat by Today’s Date or Yesterday” stuff) from 50% off to 30% because people were just waiting for it to get discounted.

Sounds evil as poo poo. Loblaws is determined to do the most heinous stuff then point out they aren’t raising prices on some of their store brand products as evidence they are hearing Canadians.

It's got to be like well over $1000 by now. Is he trying to up his losses for his next lawsuit?

Maybe already mentioned this: Universal Remotes.

A lot of companies used to make some fairly nice universal remotes with features like IR Learning and a lot of buttons and a decent layout. Now they all kind of feel like crap and I can't find a single remote in a local store with learning features.

I kind of thought that the IR learning stuff would have been such old hat by this point that the cost of adding it would be minor.

something that got lovely for me specifically: cat knocked over the "bookshelf" style pc speakers (Edifier R1280T) I use to watch tv and the universal remote can no longer communicate with or relearn it though it seems to succeed at first. the remote that it came with does work, but it's tiny and easily lost.

So universal remotes suck now, but you can get a setup using E-arc(I think that's what its called) where one remote works for everything.

I got a decent surround sound setup awhile back and the remote to does the TV(Samsung) receiver(Yamaha) and even works to control the PS5 I have hooked to it.

I did nothing and it just worked out of the box like that.

So maybe new tech has made universal remotes less needed I guess? I don't know.

I looked into it and apparently Biden never canned the Trump era Postmaster General and it’s part of an intentional austerity plan to cut costs by decreasing service levels across the country. Someone decided that Houston’s network had too many sorting machines to handle the mail so they decided to ship most of them out to other locations. So now there are literal truckloads of mail piling up across the region as there aren’t enough machines to process it.

Thankfully I’m just waiting on some watch parts and printer filament but on Reddit there are tons of people still waiting on medications and Christmas presents for their kids :waycool:

Now with less breakage.

Cerekk posted:

NASCAR did fine for a while and has the same issue. Live soccer isn't commercially successful because the top leagues all play at like at 9am on a Thursday, and Americans have absolutely zero interest in anything they're not the best at.

This is also why your typical American sports fan is familiar with some women soccer players but can't name a single American men's soccer player.

If the USMNT ever wins a world cup you'll suddenly have 50 million Americans claiming to have been watching soccer for years.

That's a reasonable counterargument, true.

On the other hand, some number of people watch Norwegian championship soccer, and I'm sure there are Brazilian high schools with better teams than most of those. Having a US league system with matches on a more reasonable schedule would probably get some views?

Then again, I find it mostly boring with some exceptions.

The US has a pro soccer league which I think is technically profitable? It is just a distant 6th or 7th place in popularity.

They've got a dual problem breaking through--they're not popular, so the best athletes in the US play something else; and when they do convert someone to soccer fandom, some of those fans end up following better leagues. But it is growing, especially among young people, so it will probably eventually be a genuine success, especially as high school football continues to decline. Turns out the whole CTE thing makes some parents hesitant to let their kids play football.
