Edge also doesn't do nearly as much shady poo poo with your data as Chrome does. Of course, your data is getting scoped regardless of what you do, but Microsoft is slightly more trustworthy about it because they don't desperately need the money like Google does.

Microsoft probably has less info on me than Google or Facebook. They tried with Windows Phone but that didn’t work. They tried with Bing Up Your rear end(tm) but that didn’t work. They tried with Internet Explorer 6…and okay that did work for a minute but it wasn’t actively harvesting data like Zuck.

Maybe not the best example, but AOC would be a much better 2024 VP pick, but I really doubt the Biden Campaign's and thus by extension the DNC's ability to choose and elevate likeable candidates let alone likable women.

US power utilities are incentivized to spend on big CAPEX upgrades instead of maintenance because they're allowed to embed the costs in rate increases. And most of the IRA's money was also aimed at expanding renewable capacity without providing much for maintenance for distribution or transmission companies. Other than tax deductions for certain maintenance costs (like replacing existing parts), there's no structural or programmatic incentive for utilities to spend a lot on it. Which is unfortunate.

The centrist faction of the DNC would treat AOC or anyone to the left of Buttigieg as if Biden personally dug up the corpse of Fidel Castro and started doing a puppet show with his skull.

I still wish Elizabeth Warren was a political force, or Tammy Duckworth had national aspirations. I want President AOC someday but I could easily vote for either of them.

Maybe I'm naive but it seems wild that "continued ability to deliver the product they exist sell" isn't incentive enough to pay for maintaining their infrastructure. What about levying punitive penalties when systemic lapses in maintenance lead to service outages or town ravaging wildfires?

But that's the thing, there are plenty of male candidates who don't represent their constituents and have terrible politics and awful baggage. And they don't get the same level of pushback, especially the personal attacks. AOC, Omar, and Tlaib are a great example, they take it on the chin in a way that a whole bunch of white dudes saying the same thing don't. Harris and Clinton are/were bad candidates but it sure does seem like there's a bunch of misogyny involved too.

I'm an insufferable shitposter who does not deserve to root for such a good team. Also, this is what Matt Harvey thinks of me and my garbage posting.
Two SEALs are lost at sea doing nighttime interdiction missions.

quote:

Two US Navy SEALs were lost at sea on a mission targeting Iranian weapons deliveries to Houthis in Yemen, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

The SEALs had been reported missing in the days following the mission, which took place on 11 January off the coast of Somalia, but its purpose had not been revealed. The two SEALs were still lost at sea as of Tuesday morning.

US officials told the Associated Press this weekend that the SEALs were on an interdiction mission, and were climbing up onto the vessel when one was knocked off by high waves. The second SEAL then jumped in after the first, following protocol.

“We are conducting an exhaustive search for our missing teammates,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander.

NERC (or the regional reliability corporation) can impose sanctions and fines if they're found to have failed to properly implement or follow their standards, but that only applies to interstate transmission operators (BTW this is why Texas isn't connected to the north american power grid). Otherwise it's up to state power commissions to enforce compliance for local power distribution. And of course those entities are stretched thin and unable to cover everything, so operators make out in the end even if they occasionally get slapped with a fine.

PG&E is a good case study. Maintenance is a long ROI with a long feedback loop. Safety margins are large so the first, second and maybe even third round of cuts aren't really important but eventually the inevitable happens.

How much of this are misogynistic attitudes that drive women to act a certain way as they are always compared to men and can't be soft or pretty, leading to one type of woman able to survive?

Cutting maintenance expenses that will show up as problems twenty years down the line is an easy way of cutting costs, whether to make profits look better for a commercial entity, or to balance the budget on a poorly run public one (hello MBTA).
