I know Israel is cartoonishly evil but digging up graves and dragging the corpses around with remote controlled bulldozers feels like the type of stuff that you could call blood libel but isn't. Wanna see themselve defend that in court.

Doing things suspiciously close to blood libel accusations so you can accuse people of making up anti semitic blood libel rumours later on.

Two U.S. Navy SEALs previously reported as lost at sea were directly involved in this operation. “We are conducting an exhaustive search for our missing teammates,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM Commander. The dhow was deemed unsafe and sunk by U.S. Navy forces. Disposition of the 14 dhow crewmembers is being determined in accordance with international law. They're definitely not taking it out on those fishermen.

I’ve met a few, and in a previous life I was almost on a show where they took various kinds of athletes to see if they could make it through a simulated BUD/S, their training school. It was designed by REAL FORMER NAVY SEALS and based on convos with guys that went through it it was accurate enough. The person that does best is someone that is probably an endurance athlete and able to withstand a TON of pain and emotional abuse. They’re basically iron man athletes.

The other explanation is that whoever was on the boat fought back for any number of reasons and domed two of our high tier operators and that’s somehow less forgivable than saying two dudes just fell off the side and drowned. If you’re attacking a supposedly iranian vessel, and your troops die in the process, kinda hard to say why you aren’t formally declaring war.

SEAL teams have their origins in a WWII program to develop scouts that would take small boats ahead of major amphibious operations to reconnoiter beaches in advance of landings this would combine with Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams, whose job it was to disarm naval mines, as well as Naval Combat Demolition Units, whose job was to handle things like blowing up beachfront fortifications or underwater obstacles during landing operations the SEALs were formally organized in 1962 - they were first deployed against Cuba, but the backdrop to all this is that Vietnam was heating up, and the Army already had their Green Berets, and everyone wanted to get in on the special forces action.

The SEALs as we know them are also one team, DEVGRU, SEAL Team 6. The other SEAL teams are apparently relatively normal naval divers and recce teams. It was the GWOT and JSOC that led to the cult of the SEAL at present, which is a far cry from swimming to a beach to take sand samples.

That whole post before had it right; special forces got absolutely destroyed by becoming a brand, not a role. Technological dominance and neoliberal rot has completely eroded any incentive to actually have proper specialisation (probably the original reason for 'special' forces) except for branding, and now they suddenly need it, they don't even have the ability to recognise that there is a problem, let alone what the problem is. Under neoliberalism, competence is so devalued and stamped out that there's legitimately no ability to even recognise it anymore, it's literally all performative signifiers.
