Can vouch for these. Still got my first pair I've been wearing for years, originally as ten hour a day warehouse work.

My old job was sort of like this with the severely overpaid IT job, but with the added bonus of being on call 24/7 and never truly being able to log off, even on vacation. I definitely had regular, dark thoughts about how it would just be easier to take the massive life insurance payout so I wouldn't be depressed anymore but my fam would still have the house paid off

I took an almost 60% pay cut to go to my new job and, yeah, I definitely miss the check, but I work 2 24 hour shifts a week and have the rest of the time to do whatever I want. My mood did a 180, family notices I'm smiling more, and my stress level is significantly less.

Money is great, but holy poo poo if someone is miserable and can make it work for less and be happy in their career, highly recommended.

How many of you make $200k or more?

To IT goons, how much do you make and how much does IT pay? Most of the IT folks I know have a wide range of incomes and work titles that seem almost completely unrelated to the scope and difficulty of their work responsibilities.

No IT people I know make $200k, unless they're heavily into network security.

IT meaning "the people who do hands-on setup of Hardware" as opposed to people in Engineering, which probably takes Senior Engineer II and above (or like Senior Product Director) to get close to that. Engineers do far less work than product managers.

I work at a company that is heavily reliant on tech but is not traditionally a "Tech" company aside from all the weird perks they offer us. We had daily Juicero deliveries for 2+ years!

Oh okay then yes maybe I just don’t know what IT is in this brave new world. One of the people is basically on call 24/7 like that other goon said and they do some hardware fixing but mainly software fixing and they make good money. But I wish that they had more free time :(

It is weird to work for a company that was absolutely central in trying to gently caress over unions. Most of the people I work with side with them, and then our company does things like cut down the trees, so the marchers are standing in the hot sun or like try to commit them to give up their likeness to AI and ruin their career. It’s kind of hosed up.

Yeah, I think if you are the one point of solutions for a system the company is highly reliant on (smaller companies), there's a variety of ranges for an IT someone who maintains some weirder piece of infrastructure you can't just call a vendor to fix for you, but that caveat also applies to engineer positions and there's generally more opportunities in that field for "ownership". And then you're definitely going to be that 24/7 on-call person who *rarely* gets bothered, until the week you try to take a vacation in which case everything will break at once.

You know, I walked into public service as a sheltered, white libertarian dipshit and was radicalized within weeks. All the “moochers” I’d been hearing so much about were actually quite destitute, desperate and very much human. I didn’t grow up rich (at all) and was raised on a single enlisted salary, but I did grow up in the south to mildly conservative parents and that messaging definitely seeped in. I’m still ashamed, to this day, of how easily I accepted that alternate reality of dehumanization.

The second you see the actual reality of their living conditions and all the mechanisms that keep them from getting ahead, buddy, it makes you want to burn everything down.

I dont fault socialists for earning a lot of money to insulate them from the evils of this system of capitalism. It’s almost necessary for survival.

That feels suspiciously close to conservatives just telling them to send all their money to the government if they love taxes so much.

What If season 2 is a lot of fun. There are some truly great episodes that really are in the spirit of What If and just straight enjoyment. Echo is also only like 5 episodes with a total runtime of maybe a long movie. Its also really easy to watch and it catches you up on what you need to know (Echo was a person in Hawkeye who shot Kingpin in the face at the end of Hawkeye). Good fight scenes and not a paint by numbers MCU entry.

Rebels is great, but I get the idea of starting a multi-season show being a slog and its a terrible way to start something. Just start when you feel like it.
