so the way id done it is:

* big hole through a block of wood
* drill a cross-hole to accept an eye bolt
* file a v-groove to allow the iron to rest nice & secure
* grind down an allen key to act like an iron
* eye bolt goes in cross-hole, iron goes through eye bolt, iron sits in groove, tighten eye bolt with wing nut

the problem was that no matter how tight it was, the cutter would move under pressure, and self-feed into the work leaving big gouges inside the work. So it was a menace and i got rid of it.

Gotta use a wedge. They're time tested

Here's the plane w the fence and depth stop installed:

And here's a rabbet it cut:

It works pretty good imo

I’ve been meaning to put a fence on my grooving plane but I’m worried I’ll gently caress it up

There's nothing to gently caress up. Put some stationary screws in the plane and add wood rectangles with slots cut in them. Easy peasy lemon planey. Even if the screws or slots aren't perfectly placed you can still easily adjust them to work

Posting some more I made a grooving plane

It cuts the groove. I could probably tune it up a bit but it gets the job done

oh hey heres my grooving plane. if u clamp a board to the side, itll cut a 1/4” groove 1/4” deep 1/4” away from the edge. If you want it farther from the edge just put a rabbet in the fence board.
