The last time I went to Soldier Field was for the Rams game in 2018 that got flexed to primetime and was like 18 degrees and dropping at kickoff. We went to a tailgate in the big lot just south, left to get into the stadium 45 minutes before kickoff, and missed the whole first quarter. The entrance we went in had one (1) metal detector, so it was about 1 minute per person to get in.

Soldier Field was a nice old concrete football stadium that they put a lovely toilet-looking upper-deck on top of in the early 2000s, it's still the smallest stadium in the NFL, it's impossible to get to, it's impossible to get into, and it sucks when you're inside. Ironically it'll probably be easier for me to get to the Arlington Heights stadium than this one. I hope the city keeps it and uses it for stuff like concerts/MLS/etc, but I don't care if the Bears still play there. It's also really hard for me to care about the Bears or the NFL in general, I've probably watched a total of like 90 minutes of the Justin Fields era.

Wrigley has its flaws, but we put a lot of money into the fast scanning tech at the entrances. Combined with the new plaza entrance as an additional point of entry (and exit!!!), getting in/out of the stadium is a breeze these days. It took forever to get into Comiskey last season at a game that probably had 1/3 the normal in-park attendance at Wrigley and more entry points. The scanners also mean we don't have to do the stupid "only see-through bags" nonsense.

Yeah that's why the Trop was a shithole from the day the Rays began, it was already a decade old and was only built as part of this scam.

This entry point discussion reminds me that is one of my few pet peeves about Petco, there are not enough entry points. There's essentially three, plus a smaller fourth one they only use sometimes. Dodger Stadium has 9 not counting the two smaller club-level gates. Now if only it had a godamn train...

IIRC if you go through the plaza entrance (which, if you take the shuttle from the Irving/Rockwell lot, is the closest entrance to where they drop you off) you have to go through the scanners twice, which is obnoxious.

Actually that makes me wonder, do you know offhand if the shuttle is ever going to go back to dropping off on Addison by where the sportsbook is now? When my dad comes in we usually take the shuttle, but having to walk to and from the cemetary is starting to get rough for him. This year I think the play is going to be to take the Belmont bus, walk up Sheffield halfway, see if by any chance there's a bar that, I don't know, just spitballing, invented Malort infusions, have a drink or two and sit down for a minute, then walk the rest of the way. We usually sit on the 1B side, so it's less walking overall.

If you take the Addison bus it drop you off right in front (south side of the street) of the Marquee and with the new scanners there is basically no wait to get in.

I live a few miles from Wrigley but with all the new scanners and taking the bus I can be out my door and inside Wrigley Field in 25-30 minutes.

Speaking of the A's, they are still going to have to figure out where to play for like 3 years between the end of next season and the opening of the LV stadium. There are also issues because if they go to a place like Sacramento, they would endanger their existing TV deal. So the current options are an extension of the Coliseum lease (probably not happening but possible), sharing the Giants' stadium, playing in LV at their AAA team's stadium, or playing in Sacramento where the Giants' AAA team is.

And when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss goes 8-8

I know you've all been eagerly awaiting some Rangers fan Creedposting, so here's the first installment. I'll be going through each track of each studio album as promised.

My Own Prison (1997)

1. Torn – As far as radio hard rock goes, this is pretty okay, but there is absolutely no reason for this to be six and a half minutes long. It gets repetitive. I think at a tight 4 minutes this would be a solid Alice In Chains knockoff.
2. Ode – This is more upbeat than Torn, but I don’t think the vocal style here fits Stapp’s voice as well. There’s also an echoing backup vocal track that I find grating. The lyrics seem to depict a man struggling with the silence of God, a theme explored perhaps most famously in Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal (1957), but this is… less good. I did not like this.
3. My Own Prison – This is the most overtly Christian song to this point, with lyrics describing the shame of grappling with your sins on Judgement Day, but offering the hope of salvation through Christ. Musically downbeat and unremarkable.
4. Pity for a Dime – This is Creed’s version of a power ballad and it’s weak. The bridge of this song has one of the most grating guitar riffs I’ve ever heard. The way Scott Stapp sings the word “dime” in the chorus will haunt me.
5. In America - The opening verse:

Creed posted:

Only in America we're slaves to be free
Only in America we kill the unborn to make ends meet
Only in America sexuality is democracy
Only in America we stamp our god, "In God We Trust"
This is followed by a generic and well-trodden “both sides are wrong” manifesto which, combined with the overt reactionary bent of the first verse encapsulates the viewpoint I’ve often observed in religious people who consider themselves apolitical, but are really just Republicans who don’t want to admit it. Stapp’s voice is starting to grate on me. The instrumentals are incredibly generic.
6. Illusion – The lyrics describe a feeling of ennui. “Am I really happy? Or is it all just an illusion?” I for one have no illusions about how this album is making me feel as I get deeper into it, and it is not happy.
7. Unforgiven – Holy poo poo there’s an actual riff in this song that doesn’t suck. And even a decent bassline! It has kind of a Load/Reload era Metallica feel to it. So, not great, but listenable. The lyrics describe, you guessed it, a struggle with Christian faith.
8. Sister – The guitar part of this has a triumphant or celebratory feel, but the lyrics describe a younger sister struggling to find her own way, coming from a difficult family situation. Depressing stuff imo. Weird song.
9. What’s This Life For? – Another big ballad, this song describes the pain and struggle of life and loss, but offers solace “'Cause we all live under the reign, I said, you know, of One king.” Bland and tedious, but at least it wasn’t very long.
10. One – Oh boy, this song is about affirmative action.

Creed posted:

Society, blind by color
Why hold down one to raise another?
Discrimination, now on both sides
Seeds of hate blossom further
The instrumentals aren’t bad until a weird bridge with a lovely crossfade distortion effect that annoyed me (more than I was already annoyed by the message of this song).

Overall, this album kinda sucks but it’s not unlistenable if you can ignore the lyrical themes. Torn and Unforgiven are fine. The whole thing just feels like generic to bad grunge, but overtly Christian and conservative.
Next up will be Human Clay (1999), once I’ve had enough time to recover from this. I think that’s their most successful album so I guess I’ll see if it’s worth the hype!

I don’t remember the apology being bad. If I remember right he basically said they were from when he was an idiot high schooler and don’t reflect his beliefs today. I only recall him getting mocked a bit because he said some of the tweets might have been rap lyrics.

As for the latter, I think that mainly stems from when he didn’t care about being a multi inning relief guy until he got screwed over in arbitration because he didn’t have the almighty saves on his resume.

I mean, I don't want to imply I don't think collusion is part of it, but that list is also basically "boras clients, relievers, DHs and guys you probably don't want to start full time if you think you have a shot at making the playoffs".

Outside of the boras guys looking to get paid I am surprised that no one's signed clevinger, hader or soler yet, but I'm less surprised no one's going after like, gio urshela or michael lorenzen

Went back and looked at the apology and yeah you're right it wasn't bad. Although when they asked him if his beliefs had changed and he said they hadn't he did a really bad job of specifying that he meant he didn't believe those things then either he was just being a dumb shithead edgelord
