I misread the Jeopardy question but a Diem question would be much harder than a Pol Pot question. The Americans are not going to know any name other than Ho Chi Min in Vietnam, and Pol Pot in Cambodia. I wonder who is the Jeopardy "go to" guy in South Korea.

Vietnam went into cambodia was kind of a proxy war between Soviet and PRC. But Soviet was no more 2 years later, but Vietnam stayed in Cambodia for a few more years. That's why all parties involved want to talk about it. Neither the west wants to talk about it either.

Mostly being 'smart' at jeopardy is just being able to connect a subject to the handful of related surface level names commonly associated with that subject as a large language model like Chat GPT might predict, and being able to do that over a great breadth of topics. Nine times out of ten you see "Vietnam" and "leader" in the question the answer is Ho Chi Minh, because even names like Diem are beyond surface level these days.
