If GW is bringing back hits from 20 years ago with the Kroot/Tau, they should update the Grey Knights next.

I hope all the Kroot kits are dual builds to really pad out the army list.

They might for all we know. Considering they're overhauling the Terminators. Speaking of which, here's a kit focus on the new Deathwing Termies. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/01/19/dark-angels-kit-focus-robes-accessories-incense-burners-and-plasma/

The kroot kill team is probably their slightly more elite/specialised infantry right? Maybe they're overcosted now like a lot of KTs are in 40k, I genuinely don't know and am generally bad at evaluating that anyway but could change with the codex potentially.

I think they said on the stream that the KT sculpts were going to be interchangeable with the new carnivores and a way to add some variety if you're running multiple squads, but I dunno if that is meant to imply that they won't also be their own thing - they definitely look more elite, and it doesn't look like the carnivores have all of the special weapon options that the KT can take.

On the one hand that would be deeply vexing since I own so many of the two kits that make up my army but on the other hand, oh please oh please oh please, they're so weird looking compared to the rest of Space Marines. I'd rather have the badly needed Blood Angels refresh if I'm being honest, but I'll be greedy and hope for both.

I really like the Deathwing Knights helmet, it's a nice mix between a more generic knightly helmet and the regular terminator helmet. More desperate people than me are going to use that kit for better scaled GK terminators.

I like the idea of the knight helmet but I just love the elephant face too much to ever consider any other face for my termies.

ok so that knights page shows mace of absolution being an option? maybe just the sergeant? I dont have any knight since they are relatively newer. but if the collector book experience is par, i dont know if i want to sit in a 4 hour queue just to see sold out again on the box

# ? Jan 19, 2024 17:57 |

Well the sprues have 6 maces and 6 power swords so probably an option.

JBP posted:So tau are going to have a huge melee component? That changes them up pretty drastically. I actually think this is a positive step for the game. The idea of a "one-phase army" is extremely archaic and leads to the feast or famine balancing of the Tau where they're either op as gently caress or dirt tier. Giving them the ability to play in other phases, while still having an emphasis on the shooting phase, will lead to better army design and less toxic play patterns.

so I am deep into the tabletop simulator world so I can get more games in, I decide 'hey I've got an hour why not play 500 points' I randomly get matched with someone so I say 'ok I'll just use the combat patrol of levathian, the octavius strike force' only for him to have one single model on the board. and it's Shalaxi Helbane. the game lasted 10 minutes. lol. Obviously next time I'll make it clear I want a balanced combat patrol experience but it was a funny little experience, but out of curiosity, what sort of unit works best against giant demons like Shalaxi?

Nothing you can bring in a 500 point game can easily deal with something like Shalaxi. 500 point games require a understanding from both players that they need to not be assholes in list building. It is trivially easy to break a 500 point match if you are so inclined.

Pretty sure the Farstalker Kinband is its own unit with its own datasheet, but if the parts are all compatible you could just mix and match arms/legs/heads to mix up the standard Carnivore box. I absolutely love all the new kroot stuff but I am a little put off by the lack of Tau integration. Theres nothing that says these guys fight along side, and are integrated into, Tau culture. I think a lot of people want to see the Tau be more like the Covenant from Halo, a unified coalition of varying xeno races.

The stream focused on the minis, but there's a codex that comes in the box too. I think they mentioned there's a Kroot specific detachment for all the stuff in the box, but there has to be one where you take the whole mishmash of aliens too.

I think if the kroot had rifles or a couple pieces of armor that clearly read as "Tau" it would go a long way towards unifying them with the rest of the faction

My only complaint about the new kroots is that the carnivore squad is so naked. The rampagers and shapers and the kinband all have cool leather straps and bits of ragged cloth that really gives them a lot of character, but the carnivores are plain by comparison. Still really looking forward to trying to get that box.

I actually prefer the Kroot being very distinct from the regular Tau forces, it really plays up their role as an Auxiliary force when you play them together. Very Spanish Empire conquest of the New World where you had a small core of European Conquistadors supported by a large contingent of Native auxiliares.

Have they updated the codex roadmap since the announcement of 10th? Does this reveal mean Tau are next?

A bit out of order looks like But they teased new Ork and Custode models along with the Kroot one, so their codices are coming pretty close together as listed on the roadmap.

I haven't seen a single article about the Ork codex on WarCom, it's all be Dangles so far. Maybe by next month.

Probably the Orks are only getting that one single teased model and a codex, so there's no previews for that reason.

Literally, the only Ork thing we've seen so far is the silhouette of a new Mekboy/Big Mek from the "2023 in review" video

Didn't realise there was one already. Oh, they've already activated safeguards for the weekend, and have a timetable for when pre-orders go up. One the latter is nice, but the former feels very excessive. They've even added a CAPTCHA now I see.

Are 3d printers good enough now that I could get someone to print out a bunch of beakie heads for me, and not have my brain worms greatly disturbed by that weird jagged layering that most 3d printed stuff gets? Buying the raven guard upgrade kit for the 2x corvus helmets inside, unsustainable in the long, middle and short run

Nobz, Stormboyz, Burna Boyz / Tankbustas, Bikes, and maaaybe Meganobz (they've aged pretty well but the new megaboss in mega armor looks so much better). Also the current Grots kit is good but some new sculpts to add to the mix would not be remiss.
