I don't care what kind of offer they get for the pick, they can't keep Fields now that they have first overall in this draft class with Fields another year closer to being dramatically more expensive and having made decent progress at best. Take Williams or Maye, use 9 on the best receiver or lineman on the board, and see what kind of picks you can wrangle for fields for some team that won't have as many options to upgrade at the position as you do. Anything else is organizational malpractice, but then again they're already giving Eberflus another lame duck year so I guess they're already familiar with that.

shirts and skins posted:Yeah, Waldron was pretty good. The offense was still inconsistent and had a few frustrating tendencies, but it's tough to tell how much of that was the influence Carroll always had on his OCs. Waldron showed the ability to work well with the tools he was given on the Seahawks. I'm curious what he would do with a different set of tools.

You don't get an opportunity to draft a QB like this often. Caleb vs Fields is an unknown vs known gamble, but the payoff for hitting is years of cheap and high quality QB play. OTOH, it's the Bears so I'll believe they're making the right decision when I see them actually do it.

I wonder how much say Fields is gonna get in where he goes, actually. Like, you wouldn't normally expect someone in his position to get any input, but this isn't really a normal situation - no one in the Bears organization seems down on him at all, and no one seems to blame him much for the past few years. It wouldn't shock me if he gets to call his own shot, and it's hard to imagine any QB with options willingly signing on to be destroyed by Belichick.

I feel like nobody's going to trade for Fields without giving him the starting job basically unchallenged, so I think everyone ends up happy in that situation. There are a ton of teams without established quarterbacks who probably aren't in position to draft a decent prospect (Falcons, Raiders, Vikings, Steelers just off the top of my head) so there should be a market for him.

I’d love to see Harbaugh and Fields in Atlanta with Bijan, run it down their throooaaats.

That'd honestly be a great choice to unfuck the vibes, but seeing how incompetent Del Rio's defense was under Rivera's supervision doesn't fill be with a ton of confidence

DL coach 2017-2020 Saints, then nebulously promoted, DC-sorta for 2022, then the Falcons DC coach last year as they climbed up to respectability. Seems like a solid hire, especially when the strength of your defense are two incredibly highly drafted pass rushers.

Probably just some variation on 'It was a disappointing year, but we have confidence in our ability as an organization to make the changes necessary to contend next year'. Probably with a lot of stress on the organization as a whole rather than Sirianni in particular; and if the news about Rivera is true, probably a lot of hints about bringing in more experienced hands at the coordinator level.
