No it's much worse. This demon cracker nation doesn't want to let in nonwhite refugees so the liberal government has been criminally underfunding and undersupporting the central organisation for asylum seeker affairs, and moving them to a hellhole on the border with Germany, with atrocious circumstances. People sleeping in or just without tents in the dead of winter, not enough water in summer, etc. I think Doctors Without Borders had to come in to provide medical care and a baby died from entirely preventable issues at some point.
It's an utter poo poo show and many other (rural mostly) municipalities are not doing poo poo to alleviate it. The law (wet) was supposed to allow the government to force/coerce (dwang) municipalities to accept some refugees. The ruling parties eventually agreed on it, until after the elections the party of the current PM reversed course. Now they've re-reversed course and Geert is angry.

germany's trajectory has been very divided. there's a lot of losers under the present arrangement in germany, especially in the east which was basically looted and is kept afloat by pecuniary transfers rather than their own industry. there is a real difference between having a functioning economy and having to beg and wheedle for transfers from the metropole - add to that the clear (and often rose-tinted) memory of a time when things were very different, and you get a lot of disgruntled people who haven't really gotten the message that they aren't actually political subjects.

They should be fighting to free themselves from the BRD. German unification has been a disaster for Germany, Europe, and the world.

Ideally they'd ally themselves with a Bavarian independence movement too.

One of the main intended effects of SPD's "Agenda 2010" reforms was to create a massive low wage sector in Germany. You could work a full time job and make less money than unemployment benefits and instead of hanging the rich the state just paid the difference, subsidizing low wages.

Neoliberalism, not even once.

no. UBI is a minimum income, while UI is tied to a percentage of your wage before you were fired, but for a limited duration

quote:

German Elites Are Redefining Antisemitism so They Can Be the Victims | Portside]German elites have convinced themselves that they “get” antisemitism in a way that Jews simply can’t. They seem to have gained enlightenment through genocide. An example: When Der Spiegel did a bizarre takedown of Greta Thunberg, the only climate activist in the entire world they could find who didn’t support Palestine was Luisa Neubauer, a leader of Fridays for Future in Germany. Neubauer was ready to accuse the entire climate movement of antisemitism. How does she know? Is she particularly close to Jewish culture? Has she been a scholar of anti-Jewish discrimination? No, the only qualification she referred to is that her great-grandfather from the Reemtsma dynasty was an SS member who donated huge sums to the Nazi party. Inheriting a ton of money from Nazis seemingly offers a unique education in liberal humanist values.

kickbacks to Volkswagen managers from bogus companies doing real estate business with Volkswagen, especially at the Czech subsidiary Škoda Auto;
favours to members of the works council (Betriebsrat), which are illegal under German law (the chairman of the VW works council, Klaus Volkert [de], had resigned 30 June 2005).
The contracting of prostitutes at the company's expense, sometimes in company-owned apartments and under the influence of Viagra, which had been prescribed by the company's medical service.
