The Gang Invaded My Dreams On a Monday, 12:30AM I hadn't checked out any of the podcasts, but after seeing some funny clips I rewatched a couple of episodes and the accompanying podcasts. I guess that was too much Sunny (impossible!) because I had a very vivid dream. The gang came to my hometown to promote a feature film, which was basically five storylines woven together. Sadly, I can't remember most of it but I do remember that after the film, I got the chance to meet them and we all went to a restaurant that Rob was opening. After that, we went to some kind of fundamental church (or it might have been Santeria / Voodoo) and the priest was sacrificing a chicken. Kaitlin was yelling "Don't kill the chicken!!" and Glenn yelled "Kill the drat chicken!!". Danny fired his gun into the ceiling. Charlie and Rob weren't around at that point but later showed up back at the restaurant where we ate... you guessed it... chicken. When I woke up I was very sad that it was all a dream and I am not, in fact, real life friends with The Gang. My wife (whose name is Sunny, by the way )said she heard me laughing in my sleep and said I did utter the word "chicken". Anyway, that's my It's Always Sunny In My Dreams story. The podcast, like the show, is excellent so I think I'll start watching it regularly after each episode. isaboo fucked around with this message at 18:08 on Jan 8, 2024 |

Maybe Rob can give Glenn some of his Emmy's?

Glenn was pretty good in BlackBerry. The kind of character he played was definitely already in his wheelhouse, but hopefully it leads to other good roles for him because he's a solid actor. Did anyone watch Charlie's movie? I guess it flopped pretty badly

I saw it on Hulu or something and decided to check it out. It wasn't funny and I laughed one time because someone did something stupid with a can I think. It was just a massive waste of time. I bet it was really fun to make it and goof around, but it did not make a good movie.

That's a shame. On the podcast he seems really thoughtful about the show's comedic sensibilities and what works and what doesn't. I was hoping he'd be able to deliver with his own directorial film debut.

it does sound like the production ran into some problems because of covid, and then after they finished shooting everything, Charlie talked to Guillermo del Toro about some of his anxieites about the movie who gave him some advice that led to him writing 27 more pages of script and doing a week of reshoots. so hey maybe a second Charlie Day movie that doesn't have a really messy development cycle will be really cool! imagine how bad that movie was before the rewrite though jeez

Fools Paradise was terrible. Not only was it mostly unfunny.....but it was so disjointed that I have trouble understanding how it got released like that.

I think it was released like that because the studio was tired of waiting and decided it wasn't going to get any better. I wonder what the movie was like before the reshoots. Maybe it was more coherent but said even less?

I lost interest when it turned out Charlie was a silent character? Charlie getting all high pitched and stuttery and fast is one of the funniest parts of him

It's worst problem honestly was him just hiring his buddies for every part in the movie and they're all phoning it in. Charlie is fully committed to the bit, but everyone else is at a 25% energy level and I dont think really had any idea why they were there. Glenn and Ken Jeong were the only guys who seemed like they got what the movie was going for and did something, but it never fully gels into something coherent. It's a shame too because Charlie is striving for a very broad and funny idea and it shines through when its just him on the screen or with people who get it, but otherwise really flat and rough. I hope he doesnt quit trying to direct, but I think he needs a better team around him to support it much more clearly and playing to his strengths.

Yeah it’s strange. Charlie’s best comedy comes from his delivery. Not to say he’s never done any good physical work but it’s heightened by his voice. So playing a Chaplin sendup is just a strange choice from go.

Not everyone can realize their ideas on film I'd like to see Charlie in more roles but I have no need to ever see him try directing again

I don't think Fools Paradise reflects too much on his ability. It was just a weird route to go right from beginning. I mean.....there's a reason why these types of comedies aren't made anymore.

My favorite one off joke from a no one character is when they're going into some guy's apartment, D is pregnant, and the dude watching the door looks her up and down and says "you pregnant" then just let's her go. Wait I just looked it up and that was Z too!

Thinking that the bit where Frank runs in front of Charlie’s 12 year old fiancé to get himself blasted by the hose and avoid her being in the wet tee shirt contest. Braver than any marine.

Had a few cold ones and tried to watch the most recent season but I think it’s time for them to call it tbh. The fastball is gone. Turned on the gang goes to the jersey shore tho and the sight of those bums loving each other really warmed mheart

i watch new episodes just because and i'll probably always find something endearing about whatever the gang puts out, but if i ever go to put on a random episode while doing the dishes or whatever, it's always gonna be from like season 7 or 8 or something and never season 14 or whatever they're up to
