been meaning to play this for forever and game club was finally the impetus. pretty fun, very hectic and tense. very easy to pick up even if you don't understand japanese. the duels can go south on you pretty fast which is only slightly annoying because you have to go through the restaurant phase to get back to them but other than that, good poo poo imo

4. Astlibra Revision - true ending, impossible difficulty

Third run through this flawed masterpiece to prep for the DLC. Still a top 10 GOAT. Impossible difficulty means pretty much anything will kill you in 2-3 hits, even after grinding out the best gear available. The sudden deaths make the frequent lost farming progress frustrating but bosses have a quick retry option. The crazy skills you eventually unlock make things a lot easier and I'm not sure if I died at all in the postscript.

Everyone should play Astlibra.

2. Project Wingman

Incredible Ace Combat clone from a two man dev team. There's some rough edges on the polish and presentation but overall the game kicked rear end. They clearly knew their limits and worked within them, and kept missions straightforward for the most part. Started to get a little repetitive after the tenth "kill everything" mission but better that than some bullshit escort mission or "shoot down this thing that spawned on the complete other side of the map within thirty seconds" like Ace Combat sometimes pulls. There's no checkpoints within missions which was fine by me since they were never too long.

Plot was simple but with enough goofy sci-fi at the right times to keep things fresh, and the final boss kicked rear end.

I played the whole game in VR and it worked really well. I noticed I flew into the ground a lot less than I usually did in Ace Combat, and some of the later fights flying through clouds of ash and smoke were disorienting in a really rad way.

I dunno if there's any chance of a sequel, but if not Namco had better take a good look and steal everything they did right here for the next AC, especially the full VR support.

Superhot Mind Control Delete. I think, I did the whole sit around for 2.5 hours and got all the achievements so I'm pretty sure I'm done. I don't think I liked it very much. The gameplay is actually pretty awesome for like 2 hours and then you realize that's what it's gonna be for the rest of the game but you're not really able to gauge progress due to the weird UI. The hacks felt novel at first but some are so, so good as to be broken and the rest are completely useless or so situational they're basically worthless so a single level could be really really easy or comically hard. The last several hours I was constantly fighting myself to not just turn it off and go back to my Ultraviolent Doom eternal run, which felt both more fair and a whole lot more fun. Man doom eternal owns

Love this game so much. I hope it gets the black mesa treatment and I do remember hearing something about that but maybe that was blue shift instead. Adore the weapons and especially the environments. I'm always happy to be back at black mesa

Op4 has had a couple of different people try to get it remade, idk what the current status is i think one got abandoned and the other is making very slow progress. Similar situation with blue shift but its got steadier progress and they recently released a demo for one of the chapters and i hear its really good. I think its in the black mesa workshop.

game doesnt always work, but when it does it feels incredible.

its a bit tough getting tequila to do what you want, and sometimes when theres two railings next to each other, hell jump to the wrong one, either sending you sliding down when you didnt want to or hop to a regular one for him to stand like a douchebag. its hard to tell where enemies are spawning, as this game has some *serious* problems with visibility, given some areas can be real fuckin visually noisy, and it can spam you with a lot of dudes a lot of fast.

https://i.imgur.com/AJ7cw9e.mp4

the game makes up for a lot of its shortcomings by having such an insane amount of style, and they understood that the reason hardboiled's teahouse shootout works is because theres exploding bursting debris and poo poo flying all over the screen in slow motion, so theres a LOT of destructibles and explosions and particles. they put an insane amount of work on some of these environments and it shows, and theres a lot of neat environmental kills by like, shooting down a neon sign on a guy, or breaking a dinosaur skeleton so that it crushes a guy. sadly these seem to become mostly forgotten as the game goes on, stacking a whole bunch of them at the start to wow you, and the only visual indicator being a small glint you can barely see when youre getting shot at by a billion dudes. this often results in seeing a chandelier or neon sign ready to be shot at and cause mayhem just after the smoke clears and you wiped the floor with every dude in hong kong.

https://i.imgur.com/cZOLPZA.mp4

its got this simple but fun skill shot system where stunts and poo poo give you more stars, which charge up a meter for special moves, most of them useful, but stuff i was a bit hesitant to use, which made most of the pickups a bit wasted cause i didnt wanna just use the one that makes you invincible every half a minute.

If you like max payne or fear or any of that poo poo, you gotta play this fucker. the fact that a sequel was in development but midway died is pretty sad, cause with some refining and even higher production values this could have easily been one of the greats. it falls a tad short but it still kicks an insane amount of rear end and is worth at least one playthru. farewell

Reading this made me feel like I needed to up the ante for my impossible run.

had to completely focus to beat the ch. 1 boss with just the wind knife at level 4. Still gonna use GROW because possession skills are my favorite part of the combat and I couldn't bear just using the flame dragon for the whole game just yet. maybe on a third run... will probably avoid using the infinite stats at the end of the growth tree

anyway see you in a few months lol

should be doable with KARON like kirihide and deflection doing heavy lifting, but man this sounds miserable. I cant do low level runs in any game because getting bigger numbers is half the fun.

1. Super Mario RPG (all postgame content). Had a blast with this, ended up beating Culex 2D at level 21 or so, and Culex 3D at about level 24. Game was far easier than I remember it being, but the last time I played it I was like 12. Still had a lot of fun. Would recommend. Post game content was pretty good, with Culex 3D presenting somewhat of an actual challenge.

Doom Eternal, ultraviolent. Really loving this game though I think I'm taking a break from it after this. 3rd playthrough and I've had it for a month, I got other stuff to play damnit. I keep getting waylaid looking for lives and other secrets and each playthrough is taking me forever. One of the best difficulty progressions I've played in years I think, not just in game but also between skill levels. donno if I'll go nightmare next or if UV is just the perfect balance of challenge and fun for me but who knows. Man I hate archviles more than most enemies in other games
