My biggest issue when I go to big chain theaters is the complete lack of any effort to enforce the rules for audience behavior. If you are playing on your phone or talking loudly or eating smelly outside food then your rear end should get kicked to the curb.

Finally saw Barbie. It was fun and entertaining. Did not expect to see Rob Brydon appear as Sugar Daddy Ken.

Bummed that the independent cinema near me that I really liked closed the other year. There's a fundraiser trying to get it reopened but it's pretty far from its target

I put my phone on do not disturb while at Godzilla -1.0 and the loving thing still rang right in the quietest emotional breakdown scene right in the middle. I rarely even get like one phonecall a week and I thought do not disturb silenced the ringtone anyway. I was the bad patron. starkebn fucked around with this message at 16:40 on Jan 26, 2024 |

I go to see movies on cheap ticket day three or four weeks after release and sit close enough that the screen fills my entire field of vision. people could be fiddling with their phones and I'd never know because the movie is all I see.

Always seems like I'm going to see stuff that nobody gives a poo poo about or three weeks after the fact- never like more than 5 people in the theater Most crowded thing I went to recently was Boy and The Heron Still have not encountered a guy loudly shoving an onion pizza up his rear end or a child puking in the aisles or something in recent memory

There was a golden era where I knew how to reliably silence my phone and now I honestly have no idea. Google somehow either removed the ability to make notification sounds not happen in Do Not Disturb or they buried it beyond recognition. (I still want to see them and get them on my Fitbit, but the sound is always there unless I go full silent)

it sucks, but you just cant go to big theaters on the weekend anymore. just go when kids are in school. i can still do small indie theaters on the weekend because they dont show blockbusters. saw poor things in an amazing, old theater on a saturday and it was bliss.

yeah i dont know why it is just so much more fun for me to go to theaters with someone. you cant even talk during the movie. but ive only gone alone a handful of times and it just isnt as fun. the most recent time i went alone was when i did a barbenheimer because everyone else i know is smart and didnt want to do it.

Friends mostly. Dune is my Dad's fave book so the one time he goes to the movie theatre this year will be with me to see Part 2. If it's artier/weirder (Asteroid City, Zone of Interest) I go alone to have an experience. Wish the trailer wasn't so long and didn't give away so much but this got a few hell yeahs out of me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8zxiB5Qhsc

having not seen godzilla -1, is it worth going to a showing of godzilla -1 in black and white? I'd like to see the movie but this version seems to be the only one playing and I heard color being called out as an important part of the movie. I had zero interest in mad max fury road chrome edition

I don't really see the point, but I didn't see the point of the black and white versions of Mad Max or The Mist either.

I'm fine with never setting foot in a cinema again. I do have one single fond memory of going to the cinema, going with my nana to see Basil the Great Mouse Detective in what must have been 1986. Every other time it was just a terrible place filled with sticky floors and loud people. Generally I did go to the cinema with friends a few times, it seemed we ended up almost exclusively seeing terrible things like Prometheus. We also went to see the Ghostbusters anniversary rerelease and my friend spent the entire time ranting about how grainy and awful it was and maybe this was the one time the DVD blurring up the image was a bonus. Near where I lived before in Glasgow the local Odeon did adult-only midnight viewings, often I'd watch films by myself and that was fine (like often there were no other customers, I think the busiest screening I saw was some Harry Potter and it was me, one other guy, and two women together), though I can't imagine it was profitable for them.

Yeah ill see movies with friends when possible but there’s something to be said about just loving going to the movie when you want without having to do a “find a time that works for everyone buy tickets lol oops someone now says that time doesn’t work anymore” song and dance.

Theatres are dead, but countdown until some company starts displaying movies in the sky using a drone for each pixel and you pay for the audio like in the old drive-ins.
