Pretty sure Vincent Price was the only invisible man who wasn’t a maniac and/or a rapist. Although you have to give this one a lot of credit for just straight up calling himself the invisible maniac and not deluding himself at all https://youtu.be/ek-Fdt9IGK0?si=pmMiR8qvZdcHQsOi

Gutcruncher posted:I don’t think it’s that the zoomers hate porn or whatever, but that for some reason they see sex as needing to be totally isolated from everything else. Like you can’t have fun space adventure that also has sensuality, because wanting to have sex in something = porn, thus you’re a “porn addict” Well they've had dating apps for their whole dating-age lives, so it's really easy to compartmentalize, and then that makes sex outside of that context more of an intrusion. Like it's always been creepy to hit on your coworkers or like, the barista at your coffee shop, but it's even creepier when you could just download an app and go hit on people in a space built for it.

It is extremely unsurprising that when anyone even tangentially involved with Hollywood ponders the question "what would I do if I could turn invisible" the answer is always exclusively "be a more thorough and efficient sex criminal".

Charles Ford posted:Listen, it's just an objective, scientific fact that everyone loved Slimer. We know how well it went with The Real Ghostbusters production company being told "always more Slimer" until the show was all Slimer, all the time that it led to never before seen levels of popularity, but we need something hot and new for the modern youngsters, so we need a kind of Slimer 2. Mini Stay Pufts are the obvious solution to this foolproof plan.

wait no I also remember a scene in the rain and you can only see him from where the rain hits his body and a scene where they're turning a gorilla invisible and it goes invisible like a little at a time so you can see all its blood vessels and organs and stuff I remember being amazed those effects probably don't hold up right they're so cool in my memory of them that I don't want to see them if they actually suck

Mega Comrade posted:I actually agree with the Gen Zs most of the time on sex in films. It's almost always bad and can be done better with just a fade to black or whatever. 99% of the time it's just pointless runtime. There is also the terrible thing known as sexposition which is common in a lot of prestige drama, where they try and punch up boring exposition with a sex scene.

The main thing I remember from Hollow Man was that he was initially blind while invisible but also overwhelmed by any light, because every part of his eye was invisible and it was just unfocused light directly hitting all of his rods & cones from every angle. I know they figured out a way to fix that in the movie (because obviously a totally blind villain who can't step outside isn't very compelling on your horror movie), but I don't remember how.

There's certainly lots of poorly done sex scenes but its such an important aspect of human life its insane to me when people have blunt condemnation of the whole concept, to me its a bit like saying you shouldn't have scenes of violence and instead they should cut to black and have the main character dust off his jacket with a bunch of bad guys piled up in the corner when it fades back in. The Oppenheimer discourse was particularly exasperating since in that case it was tasteful, important for the story and characters and involved interesting filmmaking decisions, but people still had an issue. Again its funny that this tends to be much less of a topic of concern in the cinema of various European and Asian countries.

What I find fascinating about this particularly infamous photo is the way it was shared with intent for people to be impressed at the effects on display rather than confused and slightly disheartened that the film has nothing tangible in it.
