Dunno, but if there's any game where you can go gently caress it and throw some new poo poo in, it's Generations.

The product description seems to imply it's a straight remaster of the original game, so it's more of a Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury situation. I wouldn't be surprised if they made small changes like removing lives or adding the drop dash though, especially since Sega seems to be pushing this as their next big release rather than a remaster with extra content

So apparently this kind of title is meant to be said "Sonic Cross Shadow Generations"?

Umm actually it's said "Sonic Shadow Generations"

Play as Shadow the Hedgehog in a brand-new story campaign...

SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS also includes a complete remaster of the classic hit SONIC GENERATIONS, featuring newly remastered versions of iconic 2D and 3D stages with upgraded visuals and bonus content.

"Newly remastered versions of iconic 2d and 3d stages" makes me think it means actual, new stages, unrelated to the Shadow Campaign? And the 2D part would suggest stages from a pre-Shadow era? But it could just be a weird way of wording "we remastered the stages from Generations"

Like, I'm assuming: Shadow campaign will be a mixture of existing levels from generations plus the new ones, with Shadow related boss fights (Black Doom and Biolizard) and then I assume the new Shadow stages might also be playable as Sonic, maaaaaybe outright having both 2D and 3D versions? And "Bonus content" is probably just new missions related to the new stages, updated sound test, and maybe some extra fluff, like the Casino Night pinball that was a preorder bonus in the original.

Though the bit Shadow having "never before seen powers and abilities" makes me wonder if Shadows levels will be designed specifically for him, or if all his levels will have variants for him.

(That said, my expectations for new content are a bit on the low side)

I’m hearing there might be some new side missions as well. I fully expect them to get rid of the lives system though since they haven’t been a thing in the series since Mania

Hopefully they make the Time Eater fight a little less irritating as well

Pretty sure the only parts Shadow appears in the base game are the fight with him, the scene before the Time Eater fight, and the ending (and he only really gets lines during the second one)

I think I posted this a while back in the thread, but I have a shortlist of one additional level per game I'd like to see given the Generations treatment...

SONIC 1 - Starlight Zone - Probably the second best level in the game after Green Hill. While I'm also a fan of the aesthetics of Spring Yard I know that one's more polarizing
SONIC 2 - Casino Night - One of the major, recurring level themes that was missing from the original release of Generations was the casino/pinball stages. While they ended up including this level as DLC, it was only a themed pinball machine instead of a proper stage and I think this is a good time to rectify that.
SONIC 3&K - Ice Cap Zone - The roadblock to this one is, of course, the licensing rights to the level track, because it would just not be the same without it.
SONIC ADVENTURE - Emerald Coast - It always feels like a bit of a cop-out to select the first stage in the game, but the iconic Orca chase and at the time new beach theme really do make this level stand out.
SONIC ADVENTURE 2 - Space Colony ARK - I mean, it's kind of the central set piece of the whole game?
SONIC HEROES - Egg Fleet - I feel like the concept of Generations pretty much requires you to show off the Egg Carrier in some capacity and, given we didn't do so with the Adventure level, this seems like a good excuse to do so. Alternatively Hang Castle would make a good choice.
SONIC 06 - Kingdom Valley - 06 is actually kind of a hard one to pick levels from, and not for the reasons you'd expect. The majority of its levels are basically just rehashes of stages we've already seen in previous 3D Sonic titles: Wave Ocean is just Emerald Coast again, Dusty Desert takes elements from Hidden Base and Pyramid Cave, White Acropolis is Ice Cap, Flame Core is Red Mountain and Tropical Jungle is Green Forest. Of the levels that feel original to the game, Kingdom Valley is probably the most distinct overall and really feels like a level designed to be used in pre-release marketing to hype the game
SONIC UNLEASHED - Dragon Road - This one has a really distinct theme you don't often see in a Sonic game.
SONIC COLORS - Starlight Carnival - Colors has a relatively small selection of levels to choose from, but I think Starlight Carnival is the most visually impressive one to go with.

Casino Night and Emerald Coast were in the 3DS version of Generations at least (then again, so were Radical Highway and the Biolizard and both of those appear to be present in Shadow’s story), the remaster also seems to be including Final Chase which covers the ARK as well

I don't really expect it, but that could include: Lost World, Mania, Forces, Frontier and Superstars?

Though, I feel like Frontiers doesn't have a ton of (good) visual identity to pull from, and I don't really know much about Lost World, Forces and Superstars.

Call the stage Sky Rail, but then have the level transition at the midpoint to night for a Pumpkin Hill style segment. Maybe even draw some parallels to the way Mushroom Hill has little transitions. Or have Act 1/2 be Pumpkin Hill/Sky Rail split, since rail grinding is more suiting of modern gameplay, and classic sonic could have a little more explorey Pumpkin Hill stage?

Agree with most of this, but take either Red Mountain (mix in some Pumpkin Hill) or Sky Deck from SA1, get the beach theme from Wave Ocean in 06. Or maybe Ice Cap from SA1 to free up S3K to give Sandopolis or Lava Reef / Hidden Palace.

Ooh but Flying Battery though . . .

Man, Sonic 3K, Adventure, and Adventure 2 had some good level themes.

Honestly, studiopolis is the most likely one I can imagine, since Mania's a 'classic' genesis-series game like Generations was (partly) celebrating but also modern, if not Modern.

And if they did Mania it'd probably be Studiopolis or Mirage, those are the most celebrated.

They should add levels from Advance 1-3 and the Rush games. And 3D Blast while they're at it. Actually, if you add Triple Trouble and Chaos, that's eight zones that correspond cleanly with the Genesis/Gamecube/Modern split in Generations... add in a Rivals level if you're desperate for a ninth for symmetry? But really, I doubt we'll get new content for the Sonics.

I hope the Shadow stuff means we get some Omega content.
