Sounds like the reactions to season 2 will be just as if not more entertaining than the actual show, looking forward to some more award-winning golden era prestige tv.

So...who's Catherine O'Hara gonna play then? There's no one who immediately springs to mind so either someone new or maybe they'll fill in some of the Seattle back story and she'll be the Seraphite prophet in flashback, or one of the later leaders? I remember what she was like in After Hours, she can definitely do scary-crazy.

I haven't been following this much, are they doing all of part 2 in season two? Or splitting or up in some way across two seasons?

Space Fish posted:Sounds like the reactions to season 2 will be just as if not more entertaining than the actual show, looking forward to some more award-winning golden era prestige tv. Yes, there will be some backlash from terminally online types since for the most part this show is/has been a straight adaptation with a couple detours here and there, plus we are in stupid culture wars where right wing grifters bellyache about everything. 30 million people watched the finale of Last of Us on Max, and the show was the kind of hit where more and more people watched as each episode was released. Season 2 is going to grow the viewership even more and this show is rightfully well-thought of. The original Last of Us sold 18 million copies, as best as I can tell. Now with the remasters and remakes that number has probably doubled, but in 10 weeks the TV show grew an audience to a size that took the games like a decade to do. Episode 3 is the one show where the terminally online people bitched the most, and that is one of the most well-regarded television episodes for the show, and well regarded by viewers and industry professionals and critics. I would just stop worrying about the online reaction, which will be toxic and overblown no matter what and will have no bearing on how normal people engage with the show.

Makes sense tbh, since the pace they're going at they're still on track to outpace the source material. lol if they try to milk it for three seasons though. gently caress that.

Edit: Here's Mazin talking about seasons and episode count. The right approach imo. https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/pictures/the-last-of-us-season-2-everything-we-know-so-far/ quote:Having previously teased the show could carry over into a third season, Mazin told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2023 that he could see the series running for four seasons total. The Italics are also mine, this is the right approach for shows like this. I would much, much, much, rather have 6 well paced episodes with a cogent story than 10 that are a meandering mess. The story should dictate the number of episodes, not the other way around. deoju fucked around with this message at 01:34 on May 17, 2024 |

I agree it's the right approach but I'd have more faith in it if I didn't think the pacing of the first season was one of its major problems.

The Last of Us 1 game, and Season 1, is much more of anthology of events than the subsequent game and seasons could be. I can't imagine there being as many "standalone" episodes, unless they do a lot going into the backstory of each character.

Television is a medium of excessive duration, which is cool and good and one of the things I like about it, but at some point you're just larding the bagel. Which is to say, when you're taking the plot of one game (which is fairly focused given how long it is) and telling it over the course of three seasons / six years... nah.

That's great because Isaac is pretty underutilized in the game and Jeffrey Wright owns. I hope they expand the character's role, he really could have been a stronger secondary villain.

The game was originally five days instead of three with Ellie having an earlier trip to the Seraphite settlement herself. I think a lot of what was cut probably had to do with the WLF-Seraphite conflict more
