Hell, I WROTE the bring-your-own-device policy for the middle school and promoted their use in the classroom to other teachers. But the thing is... I was completely loving wrong. The last time the thread had this argument someone posted a study that showed that even having a loving phone in the classroom was a noticeable distraction to other students, even if it wasn't their phone, even if it was on the other side of the room. We've decided that because it's convenient and kids want it, we should give the devil on their shoulder a loving megaphone during the school day. I wonder why teachers are feeling so burnt-out and sick of this poo poo? Hey I'd say more except my phone just buzzed in my pocket and I gotta hide it under my desk to see what's happening. I don't know what's happening! Is someone talking about me? Did someone say something about me? Did someone like my picture? Is it my crush? Is it my rival? Did someone say something about me? Did someone else say something about something someone else said about me? Is it my crush? Did they like my picture? Oh I literally cannot loving just let this be because of my child brain, I honestly cannot stop myself from looking. Just let me check, this will only take a minute, and now that I've got it out and I'm already on Insta let me just check a few more things...

Maybe this Taylor Swift thing is indicative that we're transitioning from the crazies hollowing out the Republican party to a phase 2 where even that is consumed by people just absolutely addicted to rage, without even the slightest concern if it's politically useful. They just want to be mad, and today OANN says be mad at Taylor. Doesn't matter in the least if it's a useful political strategy. They are just as addicted to that feeling as any drug addict.

There was an interview with school leaders from Tampa and one of the core issues was phones. One Super was very adamant that if parents need to contact their kids, they can do it through the office. He even had the balls to say it would not save them from an active shooter, which is apparently one of the key arguments coming from parents who want their child to have a phone.

Personal devices maybe, but what’s wrong with managed devices for children? Are the kids going to suffer because they can’t draw boobs and penises on the tablet version of a textbook? And a calculator is basically mandatory to get through non-basic math without spending forever on the arithmetic. These are just tools, there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to use them.
