"Hmm, horndog. A psychic dog that projects horniness onto the courtesans of the space nobility."

tbf Herbert was like a 4/10 on the perv scale compared to his contemporaries also maybe like a 5-6/10 on the drug scale, (with Dick off the scale, naturally)

Vampire Panties posted:tbf Herbert was like a 4/10 on the perv scale compared to his contemporaries He wrote that short story about the guy who impregnates a living hill by scratching a wall inside a cave within it, right? Or was it someone else? I have read it and can picture the cover (blue-green and some kind of short story collection, I think all his), but Google is being a real gently caress about this.

Leto II: I did the ancestral memory trick and became an abomination? Bing! Leto Atreides: got covered in sandtrout, almost ended humanity? Bing, again. Leto Atreides: I dated a Tleilaxu a couple times until you told me not to anymore? Well?

Leto II: I'm a god. Not THE God-- at least I don't think I am. It's the only possible explanation. I'm a supernatural being. Siona: You're not a god. Take my word for it. This is ten thousand years of Orange Catholic school talking. kalel fucked around with this message at 05:06 on Feb 4, 2024 |

free hubcaps posted:I wanna see a Green Brain movie The Green Brain is a terrifying novel. So is Helstrom's Hive. So is Destination Void and its sequels. Under Pressure/Dragon in the Sea is a fantastic high-tech military/psychological thriller. Whipping Star/Dosadi Experiment are a fantastic pairing. If you like Dune, try Herbert's other books, many of them are as good or better than Dune.

And Dosadi Experiment shows Herbert playing with many of the ideas that would ultimately manifest in Dune. I also enjoyed Soul Catcher and The Godmakers. The only novel of his I tried to get into (twice!) but couldn't was The Santaroga Barrier, but if someone vouches for it maybe I'll give it another shot.

You know what, I think it was actually a Philip Jose Farmer story. Now there's a horny sci-fi author. I should read Riverworld again, wonder if it holds up. Edit: yep it's a couple of stories in Strange Relations. This cover is something https://imgur.com/gallery/yZCwZh4 WaffleACAB fucked around with this message at 12:19 on Feb 4, 2024 |
