Yeah I decided to pick it up as well, haven't had a chance to start yet though. I think the fact that there are 100+ voiced characters helped me make the decision, that's a lot of care and effort which is a good sign overall.

Picked it up. Good voice acting. Charming. Extremely corny which imho works for the tone they're going for, a sort of early nineties adventure game feel. Seems like it could get weird dark too. But for the price even this early I'd give it a recommend.

Some quick reviews:

This game is super cute and fun. Decent art and gameplay mechanics, great voice acting, and surprisingly interesting world building. Definitely a keeper.

Honestly I liked the first one okay, but I got bored and never finished it since the pacing could be a bit slow. The format for this one, which is like a strange form of half-roguelike where there are randomized elements but also fixed points on the maps, fits perfectly. Tons of amusing humor, fast pace, okay combat, funny characters. They really knocked this one out of the park.

If I was to criticize, I feel like the movement feels a bit... off somehow. Not sure how but it doesn't feel like I have total control at all points. Still, really fun game.

Plans for its Early Access to be a relatively controlled thing ending in approximately 6 months, so what you see is mostly what you get. I really liked it during my play of the demo during one of the NextFests and at a little over $11, it seems worth grabbing.

Completed Saga of the Moon Priestess. It was alright, completed it in about 3 hours. If it was someone's first Link's Awakening or Oracle game it's definitely a good introduction to that type of gameplay. Dungeon items are pretty much a rip from those sets of games but there's only five, dungeon bosses were pretty classic "do the thing to get a damage window." Some room puzzles are pretty junky, the worst one appears about three times total which is just a room with a switch hidden under a nondescript rock. :sigh:

I'd give it a 6/10 or thereabouts, for only fiveish bucks totally worth it.

Go Mecha Ball owns. I'm pretty burned out on roguelikes but this one has that special something, the ball mechanics are awesome, the enemies are well designed, just a great all around package.

I also like that you can go pretty far even in your first couple runs since there are no persistent upgrades (only persistent unlocks for guns, upgrades and abilities kinda like Enter the Gungeon). I beat the first three or four bosses on my second run ever.

Crossposting from the steam thread. This game went into EA recently, but already has a ton of content and is quite fun/creative. It’s called Cube Chaos: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1958340/Cube_Chaos/

One of the steam reviews sums up the gameplay better than I could, quoted below. It feels almost like someone made an autobattler version of John Conway’s game of life, but with an insane number of units/perks/crazy synergies you can create. You end up making combinations like building a rat factory and then layering the ground with catapults to launch them and then also making the rats explode when they hit your enemy. It sort of reminds me of Noita in how you can pull out these crazy combinations.

A video of someone playing through it:
https://youtu.be/BptlcRR9rlw?si=QC3b51H-8rq1RQ0o

Steam review which explains gameplay more:

quote:

The meat and potatoes of Cube Chaos is definitely its exciting tactical battles.

First however, I want to explain the general structure of the game, and where most of its strategy is built. It borrows heavily from the satured roguelike deckbuilder genre. The game starts you off at the start of a map made up of nodes all connected by paths. Nodes are varied enough, and can: give you new cubes (cards), grant you special perks, provide you with useful consumables, or ask you to make choices in random events (to name only a few). With a bit of luck and some good decision making skills, their rewards will adequately prepare you for the boss at the end of each map. Once the boss is beaten, proceed to the next map, explore more nodes.

Although this is reminiscent of other games, I think the similarities end here. In fact, the designer made the right choice when they decided to go down such a well trodden road. The battle mechanics are so original and new, this general structure allows veterans of the genre to feel familiar regardless. Without much knowledge on the game, you'll be able to enjoy its reward structure, and take critical, run-defining decisions along the way. Shops are very fun (surprisingly for this genre), and are filled with opportunities to push your luck and make crazy combinations.

Luckily, for its more complicated parts, the tutorial is neither overbearing nor lacking in guidance, and prepared me fully for my first run. I really thought I was doing good and taking the right direction with my dwarf priest healing build, until my strategy slowly ran out of fire after a while. I won the run, but lost to the last boss. I unlocked a couple of new classes and races afterwards and am eager to try out their potential.

I'd be hard pressed to succinctly describe Cube Chaos' battles. The RTS tag is appropriate here, yet unlike most of its representatives, battles are not fought top down, but left to right. Your leader starts on the left of the screen, and your enemy's leader on the right. Your troops will slowly walk right, and your enemies left. First to kill the opposite leader(s) wins.

Everything you see on the battle screen is a Cube. They all follow simple rules like "every 3 seconds, move forward", "every 5 second, attack all surrounding non allied tiles", "every time you heal an ally, give that ally +1 max hp" or "every 10 second, spawn a bee cube on the tile above". Cubes often have more than one of these behaviors, and will act accordingly. The wording of some of these behaviors reminded me of MtG. It's a bit dry at times, but does not suffer from lack of clarity. Keywords and such can be expanded upon by hovering over them with your mouse cursor (lock in a selection with right click). This mix and match of simple behaviors are a clear example of the design intentions of Cube Chaos, and its emphasis on emergence.

The AI is very interesting. It is somewhat predictable, and continues to take inspiration from the genre's design traditions. The AI has what can only be called "intentions", which player can use to inform their decisions. For example, you know that in 10 seconds, the AI will play a certain type of Cube inside of a specific area of its side of the map. Hover over the AI's selected cube on the right to see where it intends to play it. Not only that, but the AI will play its available cubes in order, from top to bottom. This is a very interesting evolution of the "intents" type AI we've been seeing in other games like Slay the Spire and Into the Breach. I wish more games explored this idea.

People will mention the art. For my part, I think its good enough, that it serves its purpose. The game does lack what game devs often refer to as "juice". There's a definite lack of physicality and feedback to the UX. I believe that this, more than the eclectically coloured pixel sprites, is why the visuals of Cube Chaos feel underwhelming. Notably, the particles are too rigid, and most of the time act as glorified lines. I wish they had a bit of a magical swing, or a sway like the wind. Also, the overlays are really cool to look at and are pretty useful.

I like the game a lot, and think you should play it. It is deserving of both your enjoyment and a studying eye. A fresh approach that tickles pleasurable brain nerves.

So far it has been very fun.

Not sure if this one has been posted Welcome to Paradize. Currently only a demo, but it's coming out on Steam/Xbox/PS. Release date for the full game 2/29.

Sort of a better looking/controlling Project Zomboid with a much lighter tone. The zombie apocalypse happened, but someone figured out a way to mind control zombies and made a settlement called Paradize. You go there but it's not exactly doing well. However, the zombie mind control still (sort of) works.

You get a zombie pal to run around with you and help fight and gather stuff, and you can put zombies to work at your base. Demo, so it's free. I DL'd it today and got through the available story in a couple hours, but you can still roam around and fight and craft and stuff. Combat is quite fun. Give your zombie pet a gun! And spiked "armor" which is really just gigantic wooden spikes shoved through their torso. Also you can ride your zombie as a mount to travel faster. Game has fast travel and craft from inventory. Enjoyed the demo enough that I'll probably pick it up on PS, the steam version has a 15% discount if you preorder and it's only $30 to begin with.

They did change things around the corruption and metaprogress mechanics, and also wiped progress. It seems like players can switch to the "beta" branch in Steam and get the early access game mechanics back, but that's not as fun as whining I guess.

The Great Rebellion is a cyberpunk 2D sidescrolling run'n'gun roguelite using mouse/twinstick-shooter controls. It features randomly generated levels, multiple difficulty modes (including optional permadeath), a dynamic soundtrack and an upgradeable player character.
Game looks at least a little interesting, unfortunately this is just a comedy add because it is a chud game. Where for some reason right wing white supremacists think they are the ones against corporations owning everything.
This loving review from MrAnglo sums it up pretty well:

10/10 Perfection before i have even Loaded it and Played it!!

Already Bought the game and haven't even loaded it yet and I want to give it 10/10 already!!! We need to make more games, media and books/comics to fight against the anti white system that is remving our people towards extinction. This game is a real revolutionary game! Congrats on KVTLGAMES and his European team on producing another anti Establishment masterpiece of art!!!

Someone said that it was a chud game and I don’t doubt it, but I read over the store page and really I would have no idea from that description. Is there some dog-whistling phrase there that I’m not picking up?

just watch the video, it showed up in one of my feeds and I checked it out and was like "huh cool", then saw the video, then read a few reviews. avoid. honestly shouldn't even give it exposure in this thread or anywhere
