What we're taking about a large subdivision, off the plan pre purchases and timeshare Airbnb opportunities. Removal of unfair competition by way of government monopoly. Really by not breaking up those fema camps into speculative real estate ventures it would incur exactly what you're describing. Torturous interference to anyone in our way. We'll claim it's malicious and get treble damages. If need be we'll cut in a few senators to get any necessary legislation changes.

Star Trek has all kinds of hand wavey plot contrivances but banning resource extraction on central federation worlds feels like a reasonable step if the alternative is robotic asteroid mining or whatever to stuff into your matter recycler corona familiar has issued a correction as of 23:52 on Feb 7, 2024 |

The Oldest Man posted:DS9 still had it but it was explicitly Earth and some of the other like bigshot federation planets that are actually post scarcity, not the entire society i think the idea was they had infinite energy via fusion reactors and used that to basically do molecular alchemy. so you could just go up to some nebula with a bunch of hydrogen and turn it all into solid gold dildos or whatever with a replicator/3-d molecular printer. but if you want to make heavy industry type equipment, spaceships, bases, etc, you need a bigger replicator. so i don't think in that model there actually was exploitation. but i suppose if you suck up all the nebula hydrogen there's probably going to be some consequence eventually

I could talk for so long about how Picard is the perfect example of how modern American liberalism has retrenched into pure magical thinking and a low-key descent into fascism in to justify its conclusions. Like how in s1 the bad guys are defeated by Old Cool TNG Star Fleet still existing and just showing up at the last second even though everything we've been shown about Starfleet up to that point is that it's a totally rotted institution incapable of performing its functions anymore. Even though in TNG we also saw Starfleet trail of tearsing people for political expediency, so it wasn't exactly a sterling utopian institution then either. The golden past that never was calls to us!Raskolnikov38 posted:dont worry they solved the problem by cloning robert picardo infinite times and having him mine all the dilithium imagining possible explanations of why robert picardo isn't seen in Picard: 1. Robert Picardo digi-slavery was outlawed; as a reaction to this, all of his clones were simply shut down and murdered rather than actually being emancipated. 2. Holograms turned out to be less cost effective somehow than a combination human workers eating gruel and physical robots. All of the Robert Picardo clones were murdered. 3. Robert Picardo did his own hologram uprising and it was brutally put down off screen between the end of Voyager and the first episode of Picard. All of the Robert Picardo clones were murdered.
