Ok I agree with you, but that's true for basically every level of the Federal government and Biden isn't alone in benefiting from this. I knew a contractor who got fired for complaining about the cafeteria food when I worked at the FSI.

Grip it and rip it posted:What confidential files did Biden have vs Trump? Seems like all classified information is not created equal I only know from media skimming (I ain't reading 370+ pages), but the big notes are a few TS/SCI things on high-level Afghanistan planning (regarding trying to convince Obama to stop the 2009 surge) and random poo poo he wrote down in a journal that was determined to be classified. Donnie's poo poo was so egregious (and/or to be revealed in court) that we don't know the contents, other than TS/SCI stuff and stuff nuclear program-adjacent. Biden's poo poo was a flagrant-1 foul, Trump's poo poo was a flagrant-2 with an assault arrest and a lifetime ban from the league. Edit: info here, sub-20 documents versus Donnie's 300 https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/02/08/key-takeaways-biden-classified-documents/ facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 00:44 on Feb 9, 2024 |

That press conference was elder abuse, full stop. Biden blamed his staff, which seemed like an unseemly dodge, struggled to remember where they got Beau Biden’s rosary from, and then he called Sisi, the dictator of Egypt, the president of Mexico. But sure, this 82 year old man, who fights with the press corps the way other men of his age fight with nurses at the retirement home, is our best bet against the ascendant fascists of the GOP.

So naturally that's all anyone is focused on at the moment. Biden's been loving up names (but not content) for decades, that's not a new thing, and he always gets pissed off / upset about Beau. Edit: basically, a recap in one tweet https://twitter.com/tylerpager/status/1755780820021719455?t=_t9kLZk00e6MIhbiHZZVgA&s=19 Biden either got ambushed by a Republican, well-connected special counsel that knew exactly what he was doing with pulled, cherry-picked quotes, or he's forgetting that he forgot and getting pissed about it. 50/50, but very clear that special counsel's a snake that blew way, way outside of DOJ guidelines. facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 03:38 on Feb 9, 2024 |

I mean he could have announced, and there's still no one in line except those neoliberal hacks who no one likes (Harris, Buttigieg, Newsom). There are people like AOC that may get there eventually, but realistically would be dismissed for being too young. Warren is not acceptable to capital so that's a non-starter in the US. If Biden stepped aside for a successor it would have been a gaping chasm.

i imagine that if they started trying to find and coach a candidate when biden won (with the assumption that he would not run again in 2024) we could possibly have someone competent and maybe even likable, but that is not what they did and we are unfortunately now stuck in an election between two old farts, both of whom are fairly likely to croak in the next four years obama was sworn in as a senator in 2005 and became president in 2008. the problem is that the democratic party is dog poo poo e: of course, when i say dog poo poo, this is in comparison to the radioactive plutonium diarrhea that is the gop. you can be a failure without being a catastrophic failure.

Yes, lets abandon someone who won for "who the gently caress knows" It's not like you can just insert a different person and get the same political coalition. Biden appeals to different segments of the populations in different states. You throw Warren or Buttgieg in there and you're not going to get the same result. It's a pretty bad situation, but one that I think will only get worse if you try and construct a new ticket at this point in the process. We'd also likely get to witness the dissolution of NATO and an expansion of the war in Ukraine with a Trump presidency.

That costs what, $25k to replace? Still probably cheaper than a security guard on site if it doesn't become a regular thing. Even if you're running a fleet of them they're so far apart it doesn't seem realistic to have people going back and forth. It might make sense to install sensors and hire someone to watch for alerts, but probably not for a small number of towers.

He gave a figure to The Guardian.quote:For the small radio station, the theft has had a significant impact. Elmore said the station’s property was not insured. Replacing the tower could cost the station anywhere between $100,000 to $150,000, which is “more money than we have”, Elmore said. WIXI ought to be nervous. Their tower is within a half mile, and it’s taller. This bit may be about them. quote:Elmore added that WJLX wasn’t the only station to be hit by thieves. About six months ago, a nearby radio station had their air conditioning unit, copper pipes and other materials stolen. Platystemon fucked around with this message at 05:17 on Feb 9, 2024 |

I would not be surprised if no one saw much. WJLX’s stolen tower was at the grey marker below and right of image center. The nearby WIXI is labelled “WWWB”, which is a callsign that has not been in use there since the Reagan administration, so it’s impressive that it made it into Google’s database. The line east of them is Norfolk Southern rail, not highway. WJLX’s lost tower was only barely visible from the parking lot at the poultry processing plant. WIXI’s tower is seen above the building on the left. WJLX’s is skulking among the treetops near the right edge, above the blue barrel, two thousand feet from Google’s Streetview car. The thieves might be spotted driving away with truckloads of tower pieces, but the dismantling itself could be a low‐key affair. Platystemon fucked around with this message at 05:52 on Feb 9, 2024 |

Since the idea that if anyone in uniform ever left the house with a classified form, they'd get thrown in the slammer, here are some stories that could also fit in the idiots thread: Incident: Soldier goes home with a loaded AN/CYZ-10 in his backpack through negligence. Falls asleep. Unit goes on lockdown hunting everywhere for it a few hours later when they can't find it, realizes the signalier went home early to pick up his kid from daycare while his wife was out of town. Angry PSG goes to his apartment, bangs on door and recovers the crypto from off base in his private domicile. Punishment: Got yelled at a lot, maybe got a written counseling. Incident: Specialist comms soldier is tasked to take a bunch of classified documents to shredder to shred them. He discovers the shredder is broken. He decides to bury them in a hole in a field. His PFC friend tells him this is a stupid idea. They decide to dig a hole and rather than only bury the documents, burn them. Ok, good. But it's also a burn ban season and high winds, and so when they do this the fire starts to get out of control, and people start to notice the keystone cops sight of these soldiers running around torn between controlling the fire and stopping any classified files from blowing away. Punishment: Ticketed by MPs for violating fire safety procedures and safety incident written up by fire department. Incident: LT takes documents and SKLs back to the vault to put them away, but doesn't do a proper inventory and ends up leaving with some of the equipment still sitting in his personal vehicle. Items stolen from the vehicle off post. NCO doing inventory discovers the discrepancy when inventorying COMSEC vault the next week. Punishment: Temporary suspension of clearance, delayed promotion, but still promotes later and then eventually leaves the service honorably, on his own voluntary unqualified resignation from active duty. Now those stories are all from like... peak Iraq War and Surge era when a lot of stuff was "goddammit, fix it" where the army was just pushing bodies downrange, and I'd say there's a lot more care to procedure lately than there were back then. But a lot of people have done very dumb things with classified data and still been promoted, left with little more than being yelled at a lot, etc. It's very bad to mishandle classified information, but also when you look at how rarely people get criminally charged for it and contrast that with how often troops and civilians with access to it do very stupid things in general, you tend to realize that it's often handled administratively with a comparative "don't gently caress this up again" kind of outcome. E: Also people are dumb and will plug their phones into even SIPR computers because "it's just to charge the phone, not share files" mlmp08 fucked around with this message at 07:58 on Feb 9, 2024 |

Are you proposing the loss of qualified material that was handled by a soldier would be comparable to the loss of material of such weight it would be in use by a Senator? If a soldier had successfully lost the latter, you are arguing we would still have this conversation?
