That HC mission made me want to pull my hair out, especially when trying to get all the combat logs since you have to fight another miniboss AC in addition to everything else.

assault boosting is the single strongest movement option available (which is why basically every meta booster has a strong ab stat and why for example the buerzels got nerfed) and is applicable to all playstyles. if you are playing a build that needs to close in like bvo or any melee style generally, assault boost is basically your only feasible way to catch missileboats. if you are playing anything thats not melee and ergo wants to keep distance between you and your opponent, assault boost is the best way to create distance between you and faster builds and is also likely your only real answer to an enemy assault boost. assault boost can also be used as a substitute for vertical movement if youre playing against someone with better aerial movement than you, since using assault boost and tilting up to gain height still uses your ab thrust and not your vertical thrust. basically any conceivable movement you could plan to do in this game can be enhanced with assault boost. its just that good.

Man is that ever easy to do for me too, specifically on Xbox controllers with their concave sticks. Like a natural pressure point for the thumb to push on almost. On PS sticks it's better for me since they are convex and curve outward instead, but maybe it's different for everyone.

edit: Although in your case it kinda seems more like operating the controller with extreme kung-fu grip if it's L1 and stick click. That's one hell of a vulcan neck pinch.

Just the extra combat data. They put Rokumonsen in the arena and needed to shove him into the main game somewhere.

Just got this game and played for a few hours today. Super fun, just like AC1 but way smoother and harder. That helicopter boss in the intro level gave me trouble, then I went to reddit and was told to basically play it like Sekiro and it clicked. I beat the chopper next go around. I still think it was a bit of a fluke but also that sword is just too good to not use. Wasn't the laser sword kinda secret in the first game?

Anyways then I spent an hour just painting my AC, it looks like confetti cake now, couldn't be happier. I like the rewards tied to training missions, and the testing room makes it very easy to test new loadouts on the fly.

I'm gonna have fun doing some mecha cosplay with this game.

Kind of the opposite, laser swords were your only melee options in the first few games. You're probably thinking of the MOONLIGHT, a semi-secret ultimate weapon that would throw out energy blades in addition to swording. The pulse blade you start with is pretty juiced up compared to the older games, though. The bunk life is extremely tempting, but the pulse blade is viable the entire game if you prefer.

The greatest strength of the game is that 90% of the arsenal is good, it's all about what you're building around. If you get really attached to something, you can generally make it work. Most of the time, you figure out a build by setting a specific weapon or booster in stone, and wrapping the entire rest of the AC around that.

Keep on GOP rolling rolling rolling rolling.

Laser blade on the left arm was a staple in the first few generations of armored core, I don't actually feel that comfortable if I don't have a melee because of this (OR IF THEY WOULD GIVE ME BACK GUN ARMS)

I found that an insanely easy way to S-rank this mission is to make a quad-leg AC loaded with all the missiles. The wheels can't chew you up if they can't reach you.

I finished chapter 1 and while the game is a pretty big struggle for me, it is fun. However, there was something I just didn't get. The fight with Sulla took me a lot of attempts. I figured that is because I'm not good, but also because I had chosen bad AC assemblies. My first few tries were a tetrapod with lasers and pulse missiles. The missiles track well but do little damage, and the laser rifles never hit him. So I went to a reverse joint setup with the assault rifle, pulse blade, and whatever missiles I could fit. That didn't work either, Sulla dodges things like crazy, and usually getting into range to use the blade was detrimental because his melee range poo poo is a lot more dangerous than mine. My third assembly attempt was a bipedal AC with dual assault rifles and bigger missiles - this finally worked, as long as I stayed pretty far away.

Were the tetropod and reverse joint ACs I tried initially bad in that fight, for some reason? I'm not entirely sure why the bipedal AC was the one that did it while the other two couldn't.

None of that, but you do have to beat the game three times to get all the endings, and each playthrough changes things subtly and not-so-subtly. The rest of the replay value comes from trying to get the S-ranks on every mission.

After a veeeery long break I finally picked ACVI back up and blazed through NG+ and ++ a couple weeks ago. I'll admit that I settled on a heavy-metal build to brute force my way through those runs even though my speedy, melee guy remained my favourite. Thank god for VE-42As because I really wasn't good with tank threads. Great game, definitely my second favourite From title after Sekiro, because despite finding Elden Ring an awe-inspiring experience, I just don't gel with Dark Souls combat. I'm guessing there's not gonna be an expansion because, again, Sekiro didn't get one, and I'd categorize both games as "secondary" to the company.

The tetra and RJ legs available up to that point aren't great, but it's likely mostly about not vibing with the weapon choice.

sulla is mostly a weapons thing rather than an armor thing. his weapons arent very accurate but can shred if he gets a lot of hits in. but as a generality to remember for the future, bipod legs lack the specialized movement the other types have but they make up for this by having the best stats per unit weight. this is not just ap either, but stability and defenses as well. so especially early on biped legs are pretty strong comparatively.

Sulla's the first AC fight against someone with their own repair kits and the first real challenge. The only answer is you'll get the hang of it. Bipedal legs are really well rounded, but without seeing your individual builds there's nothing we can say about their effectiveness.

Just keep experimenting with builds and note all the different stats and their explanations. Speed is a very important factor, maybe you were just faster the time you beat him?

Yeah it's something you get used to. Fire missiles then shoot laser when they QB the missiles, have two of the same laser and time the second shot so you hit the AC at the end of their QB, shoot from melee range, maneuver them into a corner (especially good with plasma and grenades), etc.

Firearm Specialization stats on your arms also make a big difference in rifle aim performance. The detailed stats ultimately are pretty understansable in ac6, read em all! Try a biped with max firearm arm+energy weapon generator stats.

I think broadly a lot of the fun of ac is finding stuff that works for you and fiddling with builds. You can ultimately beat anything with anything, and a lot of it is vibes and personal preference and practice with a setup.

gently caress around a lot with different parts and figure out what matches your instincts, thats really the heart of the experience.
