Title discussion and other carryings-on aside, those two non-gear blobs on the title page look to me like line drawings of foot bones. Calcaneus on the right, maybe navicular for the left one. And the little clip things scattered around are reminiscent of the alchemical symbol for bismuth. Can't wait for the Coyote feet pics after all these years.

Oh poo poo, THAT comic? I totally didn't connect the name. Man, I really loved the first part of that (Adventure I). The second part was painfully boring though, and I dropped off long before it ended. Weird that that's what they decided to do after it ended, but I'm glad they're being up front about it, at least.

I liked adventure 2 as a more slice-of-life story, even if it was much slower than adventure 1. But either way at least it committed to ending in the same tone it started and not… y’know, this. The difference between “adventure 2 was a bit too boring and open-ended versus adventure 1” and “the comic has slaughtered every last scrap of my reader’s hopes as all beloved characters are scrapped for my furry sonic OC PoV.”

Yep, they snapped mid-covid right at the tail end of the comic they’d been working on for 10 years Adventure 1 is still a very cohesive enjoyable work standalone work that predates any of the post-conversion Jesus jumpscare stuff by years. It’s p. Sad for me because I was reading it as it came out, just like Gunnerkrigg, and they used to have livestreams/author notes/extra pages all enthusiastic research about local legends and myths, explaining language history, etc. and a lot of upbeat enthusiasm for most of the lifespan… and then around COVID it gradually declined into talking about how they were abandoning all those interests. (To be clear, I’m not against religion or writing what you believe in or anything - but distinctly off my memory one of the gossip sticking points was they’d gotten involved a really culty born-again one in their area, not just a casual thing. Which is backed up by what happened to their writing after.) So I might just have a soft spot for the original adventure

I'll have to take your word for it. I don't remember anything objectionable, at least. Well, I don't remember anything really. I think one character went off on their own, maybe to die, or something? And then all the rest followed him? But it was just journeying within the safe area, not out into the zombie areas, so there was really no danger? I don't even know, I just couldn't follow it. I'm weirdly tempted to read the new Christian comic out of morbid curiosity. The art is still pretty, at least.

Someone on a twitter thread once tried to read it from beginning to end to try to decipher then plotline and it was bonkers. Characters that symbolized one thing would suddenly symbolize another the next time they appeared, motivations were incoherent, and so much of the things being attacked by the comic strip would only make sense if youwere keeping up with what the specific thing the alt-right sphere was complaining about around that time. At least Gunnerkrigg follows a coherent narrative!

Yeah, to the extent that Sinfest evinced any "feminism" at all, it seemed to be the product of a really awkward, emotionally underdeveloped person who's barely even talked to a real woman. As a result he whiplashes between "putting women on a pedestal" and "wanting to jack off to them" and the nexus of shame that exists between the two festered and grew into a really rank attitude of wanting to be a white knight "defending true womanhood". So, yeah, a window into the mind of someone descending into the alt right.

I was wrong about the "going to die" part, but looking back, I meant Onni left, and then Lalli followed him, and then everyone else insisted on coming with Lalli because... Because they didn't have anything better to do, I guess? It was REALLY unclear to me. I thought they all had jobs and responsibilities and such, but they just... Follow him on his personal quest for some reason. I don't get it. And then it was just chapters of wandering from peaceful town to peaceful town, which I guess has some appeal, but I just couldn't follow it. I assume things got interesting eventually, but I stopped reading largely because I couldn't parse why anyone was doing what they were doing and why it mattered. The Sinfest guy seems to live in a sealed vault and only interacts with 4chan and his forums where people the past decade of his progressively more exclusionary and conspiratorial content has attracted have settled in. Which besides everything else is hilarious because iirc Vegeta saved the earth twice, it's like how liberal immigration comics will use Superman as the idealized immigrant, but by accident because the guy has a mean face.
