I might be talking out of my rear end here, but when there is a good possibility of encountering bears, it behooves one to prepare for the worst-case scenario of such an encounter. "Only attacks if you're between it and its cubs" yeah OK well I don't have a "are you between a bear and its cubs" radar so...
