Starting from the premise that almost nothing that occurs during a professional sports game can have criminal or civil consequences... between the break in play, the context of everyone else chilling on the other side of the ice, and Rielly clearly approaching from an angle to give as little warning as he can, this feels like one of the rare exceptions that could be escalated if Greig wanted to.

And only 60% of that belief is wanting to hear the judge's reaction to The Code as an affirmative defense.

Hockey players are the toughest athletes on earth, they can withstand anything except mild celebration, being picked last in the all-star game, or being at the bottom of any of the stats leaderboards.

I hope Ovechkin scores 61 more ENGs.

I'm watching the Kings/Oilers on the CBC broadcast and they have McDavid+Gretzky shilling for sportsbetting. Then I go to espn.com to check the other scores and it has its own sportsbook. How long until we hear whispers of players betting on games?

You are correct. I guess the next step is the players demand it be allowed.

And then the step after that is throwing games.

The only example in recent memory is Steve Moore yeah? I don’t think there’s any chance of that, the way his teammates were talking after the game I’d be very surprised if he was hurt in any lasting way.

Koopa Kid

Thinking about it more this should be a fun little test for Parros, on the one hand he gets to give a soft skilled player an enormous amount of games if he wants but on the other hand you know in his playing days he’d be rushing off the bench to assault somebody himself in the same scenario. Like there’s a little Parros in full gear spitting blood on his left shoulder and one in a suit and tie waving the rulebook on his right.

Habs fans famously called the cops on Chara, and they even opened an investigation. He wasn’t charged though.

Koopa Kid

Ah yeah, I did forget about that one though of course it also wasn’t player-initiated. Given how weirdly lovely the NHLPA is about assault/injury I don’t think they’d look kindly on one of their members charging another, Moore obviously had his career ended so he didn’t have to care so much about that.

I think empty netters should be followed by the entire team, including the goalie, gathering together at the scored on net and dancing and flipping the bird and in some cases making GBS threads on the ice if cross checking a dude in the head is going to be seen as okay

The problem with ENG is that they are too easy. That's why Ovechkin scores too many and players showboat when scoring them. Before leaving the net, the goalie should to allowed to put up one of those panels which block most of the net.
