I think the same thing happens with all the wholesome blond teen girl pop stars. If you read the youtube comments (no, don't) on the music videos when Miley Cyrus started putting out her own stuff once she was freed from Disney there are conservative moms seething at the betrayal. She was supposed to be a role model and now they can't let their daughters listen to her anymore. Similar with Britney Spears.

Pretty young things aren't supposed to grow up into real adult women and start having lives and opinions of their own.
