I'm curious why the Ontario govt is doing a sudden about-face on this. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/lcbo-northern-ontario-controlled-entrances-minister-response-1.7115170 When they announced earlier this week that they were planning to roll out controlled entrances at LCBOs in Northern Ontario my only thought was "I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner", but apparently they're scrapping plans now over privacy concerns.

I think that if we actually care about people whose life is such a shambles they don't even have ID and we want to help them, we probably should not be selling them poison. My guess is that it was a policy developed inside the LCBO itself that the Minister wasn't aware of, and that when it hit public news and had such immediate backlash the Minister stepped in before it could get any worse. Or at least, that's what the government is going to try and make it seem like - a mistake at lower levels that the Minister wasn't aware of and didn't approve.
