I've seen it a zillion times, I've done it a few (not many, because my kid was autistic, and taking him to many of those places was a whole thing), and I know for a fact it was done to me. Now, that said, when the rest of that episode plays out, you can see that the little bit of Mama Quymn's interaction with her daughter that we saw was probably the way they interacted most of the time. Or, maybe not? I mean, maybe every other moment she spent with her daughter was as a doting, loving, and attentive mother who went to that key party one time because her man was way more into dudes than he was into her, and what she wanted was a man to be into her, and Jonas Venture was the mannest thing any of them knew. So let's say she was a terrific mother for the sake of argument. She was a terrific superhero-type mother, judging by her outfit and the company she keeps. Her kid was no doubt all caught up in her superhero (or superspy or superwhatever) activities like Rusty was in his dad's, so she turned out... well, better than Rusty, but not too different.

Given what we see of other boy (and girl) adventurers, I wouldn't be surprised if Jonas wasn't particularly standout as treatment of kids and sidekicks goes, especially given the whole deal of the group therapy session where compared to his peers, Rusty made it out pretty good. Johnny in particular comes off as almost the previous generation's Bad End Hank, given he and Rusty seem to have a similar physical vs intellectual focus, but with way less of the supervision that Hank and Dean get at home because Rusty is actually trying to be a parent sometimes. Might just be the sheer amount of resources Rusty inherited rather than being cast aside meant that he has some measure of stability despite everything, as well as actually having been given some attempt at education rather than spending his life entirely as a living gimmick, even if he's still more or less as traumatised and unemployable as the rest of them.

You know thinking on it Rusty is a pretty big argument against "Confidence is sexy. If you don't have it, fake it til' you make it." He always comes off as the smarmiest creep when he has his confidence mask on, but becomes much better at communicating/getting along with people once it slips off and he can just be real with people.

Yeah, Rusty's entire idea of sexuality and women is also pretty seriously hosed up by his role models. Primarily Jonas Venture Sr being handsome, buff, rich and shameless. And also regularly emasculating and sexually humiliating Rusty for cheap laughs. Like goddamn, if Rusty's childhood was surreal and miserable, his adolescence sounds like a living nightmare, and as a goon I'm probably not saying that lightly. Say what you want about Dermott, but he's definitely been a positive influence on the boys, just as being someone semi-normal in their peer group. He's a lovely loser dirtbag and probably washed out of the OSI, but he's a good friend, and probably one of the few people who can maintain a relatively healthy balance between normalcy and adventure weirdness, in a white trash way.
