You've heard of a captive market? Tesla has a voluntarily captive market. Social scientist could write multi-volume books about all this.

doesn't brushing stainless with steel wool cause more surface rust e: this is probably a dumb question but i genuinely don't remember
|
# ? Feb 15, 2024 14:56 |

Yes, yes it does. Rubbing steel wool on stainless steel embeds a bunch of tiny steel dust on the stainless and that dust corrodes like crazy. It'll give you a bunch of pins of rust with a blotchy appearance.

Ahahaha if they really try that, leaving it masked during transport, PDI is going to be hell. Sunlight cures the adhesive on the film and makes it very hard to remove. Sheetmetal fabricators know what I'm talking about. I think a week of sunlight is enough to bake it on.

Two weeks later, there are uncleanable rust dots on vinyl floor, railings, siding, basically everywhere. It's extremely annoying because the whole mess could have been avoided if I knew better. So it's definitely a possibility. However, the same metal dust would have been on other parts of the vehicle, not just panels. Also any other vehicle transported in the same manner would have been affected.

I spent about six months welding and grinding the body of my Econoline, creating piles of metal dust in the process. Although diligent in sweeping and vacuuming it up off of my concrete driveway it was impossible to get it all, I still wound up with a spray of rust staining on the pavement. You can see it to the left & ahead of the truck However, there wasn't a speck of rust on the truck itself.
