I'm not going to say "Shell Game" is definitely the weirdest episode - Steve and Roger run afoul of a secret society of egg collectors; Francine's decision to try a "zesty" jar of pasta sauce transforms the Smiths into a family of broad Italian stereotypes - but it's up there, for sure.

The episode where Stan keeps dying was just on and the ASU B-plot really is amazing. Does anyone else notice we're watching gay porn? Maybe its only gay in the beginning! I say we keep watching.

What’s everyone’s most surreal episode? I find it varies wildly. For me I don’t mind any nonsense sci fi or other bits the episode that really threw me off the most for some reason was the Ham Club episode. Something about the cabin full of nearly-dead old ham enthusiasts who Roger keeps poisoning for no good reason just felt so strange and off in a delightful way. The way they suddenly just start referring to the poisoned ham club guys as “The Men” lives rent free in my head.

I'm sure there's another I'm forgetting but the episode where Steve convinces Stan to do a DNA test and they get their organs stolen is what I'm going with for now. That whole fantasy sequence really shook me when I first saw it for some reason.

Gold Top Nuts is an easy answer for most surreal episode but I'd also like to shout out Santa Schmanta for the continued escalating of the corruption of Jewish values by Roger. And also how it turns out Snot can just raise the dead casually. I also really love Santa's "the gently caress is this?!" when he gets restrained by a wreath of a star of david.

Mx. posted:i really love rabbit ears, it comes out of nowhere Agreed; that was the first episode I watched after a few years off of the show and it caught me off guard. I remembered the show could get weird and high concept, sure, but I'd missed most of the TBS era before watching that so I was used to them keeping that kind of stuff relegated to holiday episodes and season finales and the like.

I'll say Rapture's Delight. It's a good premise on its own, but it really gets surreal when they do the time skip and it feels like a different genre at times. Honestly, most of the Christmas episodes are more surreal than the regular episodes. Stan dying and going to heaven, Steve killing Santa and then the massive fight at the end, when they go to the North Pole and discover Santa trying to resurrect a monster from Sumerian myth. poo poo gets weird. For non-Christmas I would say the most recent dinner party episode, or the Rogu babysitting one.

American Dad and Surrealism go together like Peanut Butter & Jelly, well with two exceptions, American Fung is a tire fire of an episode that I've rightfully griped about probably at least a dozen times in this thread, and the episode where Stan gets turned into an old man is also pretty bleh

# ? Feb 18, 2024 05:47 |

Stan & Francine & Connie & Ted where Barry's parents want to hook up with Stan and Francine but Steve wants to stop them so he and Barry sneak into a naked swinger resort but it turns out, in a callback to a season 1 episode, Barry is the evil mastermind behind the plot. And Roger thinks he's Daredevil.

Stan On The Pill is one of those episodes that has a great core premise but a middling at best execution(and the kind of middling that leaves you annoyed at it's mediocrity more than anything)

Yeah that's the thing it starts out strong but you can see the exact moment the episode falls apart; when Stan and Francine are unable to make lesbian sex work for them and it's all downhill from there
