broke down and bought grimlord because i wanted to see the "dark souls in vr" concept and ive got to say its actually kind of neat and far enough in early access that it seems like a game. two major criticisms i have is that regular mobs dont have health bars which is fuckin critical in a dark souls game. also all the npcs talk too much

AccountSupervisor posted:Not sure if it was mentioned here but it looks like they've removed Stormlands from the Oculus store. Huge bummer. I loved Insomniacs VR games, sad they totally abandoned the genre. It's been gone since October. According to some Meta support drone, there's some privacy policy paperwork Insomniac needs to do and hasn't. Whether they'll ever give enough of a poo poo to get it back up is an open question. The other weird thing about Stormland is that its numbers (AFAIK) didn't show up in the big Insomniac leak, unlike all their other VR games.

Finally decided to dive back into VR/AR after several years being out of the loop. last headset I bought was the Oculus Rift-S. Still waiting on my lens inserts so that I don't need to wear my glasses. Also bought a 3rd party strap and rubber cover for sweat. So far it's not bad, but what I really want is much better visibility for AR so that I can read my computer screens while using the thing an no have to rely on projections inside. There isn't currently a way to lock applications to specific locations all around your space is there? It seems to sort of do that with windows but only in a half circle around you.

They strap on just fine onto a Quest. if I'd known these fit before I bought the koss I might've gone for them, but at least the koss are probably better quality. They are definitely significantly better quality than my old DAS. I'm currently doing this goofy hack just to test out the audio and it is working pretty well. I'm not sure if I'm gonna strip the headphone arms off my old DAS, replace the speakers with the koss, and then attach or just create something from 3D printed parts. A lot of the 3D printed parts seem to just hang there and I like how adjustable the DAS was.

My Quest 3 suddenly doesnt connect to my wifi. Worked perfectly for about 4 months, now it won't connect no matter what. Doesn't tell me what the issue is, nothing. Every other device connects normally, nothing ever changed, router's the same. It boggles the mind that such a loving piece of poo poo hardware can be released in 2023.

I had a software update go a little squirrely last year, it worked out in the end and seemed like just a minor glitch... but I discovered my RE4 saved games were totally gone. Even though it's supposed to have cloud storage for the saves, they just disappeared. I was near the end, too I still haven't fired RE4 back up, the idea of starting right back again from the beginning is just too exhausting. At the time it boggled my mind that a modern game console could let such a thing happen.

I have to roll my laptops wifi adapter driver back to base every time it update. That fixed it, thanks man! But still, this machine is built the way hardware was built 15 years ago. Even transfering files from any pc to meta 3 is not an obvious process. For a while I tried airlink with cable but as soon as the file finished copying it disappeared (there was a massive number of tickets on the meta forums on this a while ago), so VD ended up being my best option. Then suddenly airlink started to work, haven't had an issue since. Another weird thing is why can't the meta have its hdd space expanded by an ssd/sd card/whatever. This is a weird choice that no one likes, not even the 512gb owners, and if we consider the number of units vr porn alone can move (where a single 8k video can easily reach 30+ gigs) it's even more baffling. Meta 3 is technically high quality vr at an affordable price, so why is this "vr for the masses" built like an apple product? No one gives a gently caress about the metaverse. This is a loving brick that fails on so many basic tasks we've taken for granted since, huh, 2010? (note that as I bitch about meta I can't stop playing AW2)

Man I just got a Quest 2 for cheap from a coworker and I know it's old tech at this point but it's still kind of blowing my mind. Got Virtual Desktop set up too -- what are the killer apps? More interested in seated stuff than roomscale but I'm open to that stuff if it's really good. Obviously Alyx is on my list. Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades looks cool too.

I'm currently playing through the Half Life 2 VR mods, finished the base game and currently doing Episode 1, and though the graphics are a little aged now it's still amazing being inside of them in VR, and I think the facial animations and even body language for the likes of Alyx, Breen and G-Man (and to a lesser extent, Barney and Eli) do a hell of a lot to make them look more "real" than just the quality of the textures and 3d models. The games have a pretty robust set of comfort features/options now that they didn't the first time I tried them last year, including a seated mode that allows you to chill on the couch while still feeling like you're running around City 17/the Citadel.

Loved shotgun myself, the SMG jumped around a bit too much for my liking and there was something that felt right about having to pump the shotgun to reload after each shot. But also I'm a terrible aim, thank God for the laser sights you can add or else I'd have never made it past the trainyards!

Still enjoying playing ghosts of tabor with friends despite the incredible amount of jank. Also going to finish genotype soon, it’s been a fun corridor metroidvania shooter. Looking forward to contractors showdown coming out soon, hopefully it’s similar to ghosts of tabor except we get brutally owned by bugs less often.

Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades looks cool too. Get sidequest, sideload it with the Dr. Beef ports of Doom 3, Half Life (though, on current Quest firmware last I checked there were some issues that require you to do a little bit extra to get it to run correctly with all the enhancements. There's a weird "bug" or change that makes the Quest just start chugging when loading a bunch of small files, causing excessive load times for HL, you can package all the files into one big file and apparently it's fine) Quake 3, RTCW, and really any of the ports. Hell, playing OG doom and wolfenstein in VR is cool as hell, too. Or any of the other ports he's done. They're all really cheap, and they give you a ton of content in VR ported over really well. I know they're just ports, but they've been the killer standalone Quest games for me. I think it's a big problem where our standards for VR games let mediocrity get a pass, and it's better to put good gameplay first. Like, I didn't even think AW2 was that good, it had a lot of flaws that annoyed me that I think we wouldn't really be as cool with if it wasn't VR, but then it was talked about like it was amazing even compared to non-VR games. I've replayed through all of the Half Life series (1, 2, and Alyx) again all in VR and it was incredible. I have just about finished Pixel Ripped 78, someone wanted an update when I was done with that and it kept getting put back. And, yeah it has some flaws, I still think Pixel Ripped 95 is overwhelmingly the best one (in part because I was 8 years old in 1995 and, I dunno, it legitimately feels like sitting there playing snes in 95) but I've been thinking about it lately, what I think of the series. The games themselves, their biggest flaw is that they're just too short. There are 3 of them though, so if you think of Pixel Ripped 89, 95, and 78 all as one big game, which it kinda is, then you get one really, really fun and good VR game. Still though, that's buying 3 games for what's realistically one game, I think it's worth it because, 95 especially, is just so much loving fun but, still. SkyrimVR modded is still one of my most intense VR experiences I've ever had, but it took a lot of hardware for me to get it running perfectly. The game just doesn't look great if you cant push the resolution really high, no matter what you do. I played it again with the Auriel's Dream modpack pushed as high as I could with a 4090 and it was amazing. I'm using Wander lately to go back to my childhood home and stuff and that's pretty cool, way better than the garbage, half broken Google Earth VR version. Not much of a killer app but it's still really nice.

It’s old news for everyone here by now, but these first few experiences with human sized enemies in games really convince my brain to panic in impressive ways. Is the Quest 3 an upgrade visual wise from the index? I really only use VR for flight sims anymore, and I'd like a bit more fidelity in the gauges, and the Quest 3 seems to have more resolution than the Index does. Does that translate to more fidelity, or is it just for more FOV or something?
