The math on how much you get out of a game and how much they cost to make vs their cost just doesn't make sense. But making everything a GAAS let's the developers also have the fun of gambling. Maybe this is the one that will become the next Fortnite so why do small reasonable changes? a price increase would definitely translate into improved working conditions and not bigger executive bonuses and dividends.

Studios weren't stable or well-run and easy places to work back when a AAA release cost the equivalent or $150, raising the price just means bigger bonuses, stupider expectations for the devs, and people buying fewer games overall or writing off the price point forever and feasting on cheap, high quality games which are equally available instead. Nintendo could get away with it because they're the last company with exclusives anybody gives a poo poo about, nobody else tho. F2P GaaS dashboards with a sprinkle of game and two scoops of casino were the way to circumvent this, but now even those are $70. That's a big increase in revenue, but who would argue quality has gone up?

I think the only game I play that is constantly hounding me to purchase them is BF2042 and I ignore it completely. season passes are bundles of dlc that constitute an entire "season", whatever that may be. usually they are like "year 1 dlc season pass" that gets you all the dlc released in the first year after a game releases. not the worst thing, but kinda annoying when there are multiple seasons. the concept of a season pass has been around since at least the xbox 360 era, probably before with stuff like "game of the year editions" that included all the expansions. no idea how you missed this unless you have been in a coma for the past decade or so battlepasses are a reward track, usually through progression or achieving daily milestones. They are typically time limited, usually around 3 months before they switch to a new battle pass. There is usually a free version of the battle pass that gets you a few rewards as you progress, but most of the cool stuff will be locked behind the premium version. What makes them really suck is the time-limited part. Its entirely possible to "purchase" a battlepass and then barely make any progress on it before the season changes to a new battlepass that you need to purchase again. They are also designed to take months of daily game sessions to get through. They want you logging in daily to boost their engagement kpis. I honestly would be much more forgiving of the concept if they let you go through them at your own pace because its basically impossible to get through two or more games that have battlepasses unless youre spending all your time playing the games either way, ignoring battepasses is the correct way to play any game that has them, so youre on the right track
