I'll go a step further and say it's not possible to draw any districts without at least some incidental gerrymandering. Obviously the difference is in degree. But I think it's still worth remembering there won't ever be a perfect map.

Stewart has always supported the war in Ukraine, partially because he over identifies with Zelensky because they were both comedians thrust into politics or whatever. He has always been extremely naive when it comes to foreign politics too.

The correct song after the previous “My Shot” is the following song, “The Story of Tonight”, which would then be followed by “The Schuyler Sisters.” I deeply regret this unfortunate error. 04. Free Markets make Free Societies or whatever the axiom is Because they believe that The Market is both Providence (the will of It’s why “progressive” liberals can be so insidious with having a libertarian streak, because the solution to any societal problem can be, (and under the nudge theory, must be) limited to deregulating and commodifying something and letting the most perfect fairness of The Market do its work. “People should be free to choose X” sounds good and liberatory and progressive, and that’s how Democrats in particular talk about every single social issue - access to - but that’s completely ideological. Thinking of society as a series of markets where people just need to be free to rationally decide what’s in their best interest and somehow that will lead to the common good or whatever is insanely baked into American culture at this point, but … I mean, that poo poo’s not real. So things are expensive because people are so free to choose that the prices reflect what the market will bear, and they really want to pay more because they want stuff so much - the prices reflect how much they demand it. Instead of an authoritarian system that unfairly limits what people who really want things can pay, (because you can only express how much you want things by spending money, there is no other way) free societies fairly let everyone compete and express their preferences on a free market. Because the prices are inherently good and fair, a society that allows people who want things more to pay more is good. It’s all babybrained nonsense imo DJJIB-DJDCT has issued a correction as of 09:53 on Feb 21, 2024 |

DJJIB-DJDCT posted:Free Markets make Free Societies or whatever the axiom is In my opinion, Democracy, Freedom of Belief and Free Market Capitalism all diffuse conflict by making the possibility of changing who is dominant in society possible without violence and destruction. Even if they make manifestly poor choices and outcomes, the ability for revolution to not always produce violent civil war gives them a leg-up over rival systems. To people who are dominant in society or identify with that dominant faction, this can be viewed as a plus (when someone defeats me and mine, as always happens in every society, I and everything I care about does not get destroyed!), or as a minus (how dare they challenge my dominance!) Putin's Russia was the result of a failed transition to Democracy, Freedom of Belief and Free Market Capitalism. It turned into (to be pithy) an autocratic fascist kleptocracy. Now, in order to gather power, you have to really want to have it and keep it. So to many of these people, the fact that all 3 of those ban them from destroying their potential rivals is unacceptable. So they want to dismantle Democracy and replace it with one where they cannot lose power. They want to dismantle Free Markets and replace it where economic dominance can crush foes. They want to ban other Beliefs and ways of thinking and crush those who follow them with violence.

I’ve been enjoying Jon Stewart’s return, but this was one of his weaker segments. He flubbed the economic and political comparison to Russia. Moscow and St. Petersburg are the homes of Russia’s elite who benefit from its narrow kleptocratic petro-economy, and a showpiece for the rest of the world. Most of the country is dirt poor by Western standards and Russian provincial life if miserable. It’s a demographically shrinking, and culturally dead country. Putin is basically just Brezhnev 2.0.

Good: Biden Haley Navalny Bad: Trump Putin No ideology, no policy, no "where do we want to be and how to we get there?". Just Red v Blue with the media picking the teams.
