Generally gamers are huge dumb babies when they want everything buffed to the level of the most overpowered option until the game's overall balance is completely broken and trivialized. But they're accidentally correct in this case, I think. Non-Breaker primaries feel worthless on higher difficulties. Cool, I finally managed to kill a couple low-tier bugs. 10 more trash bugs, 7 shield bugs, and 2 chargers just spawned while I was doing that. Wasn't even worth spending the time, effort, or movement speed to fire. I loved the Defender early on but it is utter trash at this point.

The crazy thing about all the server problems is that well before they are fixed the game's galactic map will have been completed, at which point it will uninstall itself from everybody's machines and delist from steam and PSN

Do people not find that the laser dog aggros poo poo that you would otherwise avoid on higher difficulties? I landed in on a guy already running a Suicide Mission level and it felt like my guard dog was a liability more than a help.

Group of 3 friends tried doing a level 7 mission, focusing on objectives but not being particularly stealthy and pretty much found that we were exhausting all of our ammo in each encounter. It just throws stuff at you at the higher levels, in my experience. Avoiding fights seems like it’s the way to go?

Also - any tips for finding super rares? I’ll be damned if I can find the structure that spawns them. I have no idea of its scale really, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen one.

Also the best quality of life thing they could add right now is an actual queue system with feedback, not this lottery login poo poo. If the game tells me I’ve got circa 45 minutes to wait, like a live chat would, and I can rely on that, I can actually go off and do something while I’m waiting. As it is, I have no idea whether I’ll get in after the next 50 second countdown, or have to wait for an hour or more.

Well, at least we'll have always have the friends we blew up with an accidental 380mm artillery barrage, or a walking barrage that hit a rock and rebounded and started going the wrong way, or an autocannon turret that tried to snipe a bug 6km out and instead nailed a friend in the head, or by going full ham with a machine gun and accidentally going too ham, or with the 1500kg bomb that was supposed to hit the Bile Titan but then baller time happened, or...

My tip is to be in a team of 3 other people that are better than you and hope they find it. I have enough for like 2 final upgrades so I don't have to worry too much about it for awhile, but yeah. I think I stumbled into the testicle once.

The game seems to take where you throw beacons as a vague suggestion. I throw the beacon right on top of their old guns and sometimes they end up on the other side of a mountain. They throw a beacon wherever, and sometimes as I am trying to steer for the team/general area of my loot the game hijacks my controls and sends me in the opposite direction faster than I could possible control a pod manually so I'm surrounded.

Maybe there is some fuckery with "Oh poo poo they might hit a ledge that is technically lethal fall damage?" with a lack of grace, or it just really, really hates the open field with a charger I was headed towards hoping to crush them.

Those sorts of shenanigans even with players who honestly want to help me are another reason I keep bringing the disposable rocket and skipping backpack toys even more frequently.

I unlocked the laser rifle from the battle pass. It's ... OK? But not nearly as good as the Breaker. Theoretically you'd think that it'd be excellent for burning the faces of Chargers etc, but that doesn't really seem to do anything. And for normal enemies you have to burn them for a few seconds before they die, whereas with the Breaker I can just mash the right trigger while panning my reticle across an enemy line and be rewarded with 10 kills.

Haven't used it a ton, but I actually really like it for level 5-6 missions

The scythe effectively has unlimited ammo if you don't burn through it anr engage alerted/aware groups. The reload time if you fire for too long is stupid fast. It's great against bugs, not sure how it is against bots though. It really seems like what a previous poster said, you play the role of the laser backpack and just provide extra support and call in stratagems. As is it feels like more of a support weapon than a solo type weapon. It doesn't seem to attract enemies outside whoever you're shooting at, so maybe it's viable for more stealthy gameplay?
Haven't really played with it all that much though, but I've found it effective against most bugs.

This isn't cool at all Looshkin! These are dark forces you're titting about with!

Just a thought about line delivery - every now and again, you get a variant of the "how about a nice cup of liber-tea?" bark where the emphasis is really heavily on the "tea". That doesn't make sense! "How about a nice cup of LIBER-tea?" makes sense as a pun, because the "liber" acts as a kind of modifier to the "tea", but "How about a nice cup of liber-TEA" implies that it's a tea kind of liber, which isn't a thing.

This might be a bit Dark Souls-pilled of me, but obviously that was intentional - a person did that - and so I like to assume it's a subtle nod that these people are completely unhinged, and don't even understand the things that they are shouting. They're not shouting because they believe in it - they're shouting it because that's what Helldivers shout.

Edit: spotted a fun bit of world building earlier today

I cant think of anything to put here.

Yeah it's running well, even ran with a Goon named Turk.

Unfortunately the mission I was in ended up being too hard and I figured I may as well clown around and try to get my head around the mechanics, get a feel of the movement, guns, UI and other game systems rather than when I am with other people. This way me fluffing around won't effect peoples play time & piss them off.

Then Turk rocked up so I figured I had best pull my finger out and play properly and managed to frag poor Turk a couple of times in the process...

I unlocked the white and red shotgun near the end of the battlepass, the breaker spray and pray. It's not as good as the breaker. Bigger magazine but less damage, doesn't shoot any faster, and the magazine size just isn't a problem for me when using the breaker so why go for the thing that takes twice as long to kill bugs

At one point while returning to my spaceship I saw it was named SES Liberty instead of Flame of Selfless Service. I guess it's the default name and there was a glitch, or maybe Liberty is the actual name painted on the outside, because who has time to repaint the ship every time a helldiver is defrosted?

I think it's like every other co-op shooter I have played where you get better players if you are in higher difficulties. Outside of connection issues I have successfully completed most of my missions with randoms. Mic communication has not been necessary. I have around 60 hours on steam and am level 36 in game, been playing since day 1 when I can.

Most people understand that friendly fire is just something that happens, but you will undoubtedly encounter someone trolling eventually, it happens in every game.

It's great fun, you can drop in to all sorts of people's games and as long as you know how to run the mission types on some level (you'll learn) and make generous use of the "I'm Sorry!" and "Thank You!" autochat prompts you'll get along fine.

This echoes my experience. You will run into the odd rear end in a top hat, but there are a ton of hard working and well meaning types who have a good sense of humor.

I tend to not play with too many people under level 10 tho anymore, because they are still figuring out the basics and it can be a bit frustrating when a new player feels the need to fight mob after mob while ignoring the objectives or exploration.

I had what I assume was someone's friend in diff 7 game. They were level 3 and they tried to take my shield pack right after our first drop. I'd chalk it up to them not knowing any better but I also would have TK'd them to take it back if they actually got it before I did. Naturally they spent the whole match dying to armored bots they couldn't fight because all they had was a machine gun turret and orbital precision strike.

I do make sure to drop a spare support/back slot kit when it comes off cooldown if there are people that have died and haven't been able to recover their own stuff.

I’ve had zero issues playing with randoms. I think people are just grateful to not be playing solo, at least that’s how I feel. I did get Tk’d 3 times from orbitals once but given that we were both around level 7 I’ll chalk that up to learning how each orbital works and their range. One time we were on the Seaf artillery and it was being overwhelmed so I panicked and called for an orbital right on top of us. I sprint away and see my partner hit the Alt key as they literally dove from the explosion just in time lol. Sometimes when poo poo gets hot you can loose your cool, it happens. Very fun game, btw.

Things could be going better

Pubs are perfectly fine so long as you aren't trying to sweat the high difficulty levels. This is a game where it's more funny than irritating to get mulched by someone's mistake so if you keep that mindset you'll have a good time. You just have to kind of go with the flow; if the pubbies want to chase down every nest on the map then just go with them.

Unrelated, I wonder what the tail of the credit and resource system is going to be. Once people can actually play the game for long periods of time they are going to burn through the available ship parts and strategems quickly, so I wonder what kind of parts dump they are going to end up implementing. You need something to keep people seeking out materials, but also you don't want it so that it becomes a treadmill to unlock parts to make the hardest difficulties possible.
