The trend from the last couple years, which seems to be fading now, was to wear 2000s "distressed" jeans but take it to the point where you're just ripping out a rectangular panel from mid-thigh to mid-shin. That at least had the virtue of being novel, and not reminding me of my mother's craziest friends.
