Isn't "toaster oven with convection" what an air fryer is? (I've never used one.)

It is, yes. They just figured out a way to repackage and market it

Bake might have a slower fan speed but otherwise yeah it's probably the same other than the preset temperature/time. You can't really do "no fan" in an air fryer because it's too small for natural convection so your food wouldn't cook evenly.

Yes, with the added benefit that while an air fryer is built in such a way it only works properly when the fan is running, because the heating element is separated from the basket by the fan and the whole thing is too cramped, a toaster oven doesn't. Cerekk posted:Notably the repackaging moves all the heater elements to the top and adds a frying basket meaning you can do greasy/oily stuff with easy cleanup and no fire risk. "I've got kids, I've got grandkids and so do you. This stuff matters. Every detail matters." National Transportation Safety Board chair Jennifer Homendy told reporters over the weekend that "we are very, very fortunate" no one was seated in the two adjoining seats closest to the detached door plug, whose purpose was to cover an unused exit door. “It’s fortunate that nobody died and there were not more serious injuries,” Jennifer Homendy, the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, told CNN after touring the aircraft shortly after the incident. A passenger sitting in the window seat, and possibly even the middle seat, might have been pushed through the opening by the force of the relatively high-pressure air on the inside rushing to the low-pressure environment at altitude on the outside. It was also fortunate that there were no infants or toddlers who were being held by their parents in their laps near the opening. Alaska, as is the case with most airlines, allows “lap infants” for passengers up to their second birthday. Brickhouse said had there been a lap infant in that row, there’s a good chance they would have been lost through the opening. but i mean hey maybe you have access do different information and it would have totally been no problem at all, in which case it would be great to share that here even though i do recall that case where someone died after their window blew out which seems less severe than this vvv sorry, moving on Mozi fucked around with this message at 17:04 on Feb 24, 2024 |

My air fryer has a slow cooker/pressure cooker function that doesn't use the fan, so it should be possible to make hot without making windy hot. But thankfully I'm not an engineer so can only be ignorant and complain about things I don't understand E: on Facebook, every single time I open it up, the first thing I see is a chive story/short/whatever that's always just a different large breasted women. I've clicked on it maybe four or five times over the last year or two, but apparently that's enough for the algorithm to know my priority in life has and always will be staring at huge gazongas. I got an old school stovetop pressure cooker with the rocker on top and I love that thing. It was way cheaper than an instant pot of the same size. The standard comment I get is "oh my grandma used to have one of those"

I used to think air fryers were a gimmick but I got one for Christmas and it's pretty useful. I don't really cook in it unless you count toasting a sandwich or heating something frozen, but it's great for reheating things. Does wonders for leftover fried chicken.

Yes just put some olive oil on the bread and set it to 360. About 5 minutes each side. It's a pretty good quality sandwich. I imagine a toaster oven would be more efficient, though.

Large Testicles posted:an air fryer is just a countertop convection oven, you can put all sorts of poo poo in there Convection functions on ovens were never more than a high-end feature for built-ins in the US, so most Americans' first exposure to a convection oven in the home is an air fryer. It's actually such a common thing that built-ins are now labeling their convection features as "air fry" so that people understand what's going on. But this is also the country that failed to adopt the press as a home appliance until George Foreman sold them on the Home Shopping Network, so it's less something that's gotten shittier than something that's always been lovely.

Convection ovens have been a common counter top appliance for many decades. Often they were sized for small frozen pizzas, like totinos. They were like a hot plate, a cheap low end thing poor folks or single men had instead of a real oven/stove combination.

This is gonna sound like some boomer rear end generational complaining but none of my zoomer friends know how to cook & don’t know how to read recipes so it does end up with air fryer culture being dominant. I am not throwing any shade on anyone who doesn’t know how to do it but as someone who is the partner to a teacher I do think part of it is that a lot of schools have eliminated stuff like home ec. Anything that looks good on a test (gen ed stuff, history) or provides shareholder value (programming) is still around but what happened to home economics, automotive etc. unless you’re an enthusiast nobody really knows how to do overall household stuff and I think that’s sad
