Do people actually enjoy hearing what other listeners have to say, or is it a bit of a weird echo chamber?

listeners calling in about something completely inane can be funny, but it's so rare that I'd prefer DJs didn't feel compelled to do it all the time as a crutch to actually engaging with the audience

he's atrocious on Radio 2 - I can't listen to it anymore with him presenting. He has absolutely no rapport with people who call in, he trips over his words constantly, his "bits" that he's come up with are at best tedious and one is infuriating (someone calls in and hums a bit of a tune they can't remember); he also did one where he asked people listening to use their car horn if they were sat in traffic which is dangerous and illegal. I gave up when he was telling an anecdote and forgot the point of it - how the hell do you even do that?!

he's just the worst, milkiest, most tepid cup of tea you've ever been given in human form :(

he's missing Chris what's his name that was his sidekick on Radio 1, but he was never my cup of tea on Radio 1 either and I don't just think it was those very early starts

2nd episode of Canadian Pottery Throwdown had them making a chess set, but in their own style. At least 3 of the sets I'd easily pay good money for. They haven't done a chess set in our one have they?

Now they've settled into a regular episode it's pretty much the same vibes you've come to expect. Plenty of crying and hugging and people supporting each other.

They did it in the UK version in Series 3, when it switched to being on Channel 4, I believe. Again, many of them were superb.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken a dislike to a character faster or more vehemently than Emma in One Day. Fantastic acting, but I don’t know if she’s meant to be a villain in the story. Sat watching it like someone’s salting a graze.

I thought he was majorly flawed at first, but aren't we all, and there was some development the entire way through, and that's such a strong reaction you've had about Emma.

What is it about her that you found so distasteful? Did it change as the series progressed?

I don’t suppose anyone in here has any tv listings from the 90s to hand? I’m doing one of my dumb projects where I’m trying to recreate a weeks worth of TV I grew up with on my Plex server using scheduling software (I’ve got other channels running already, but this will easily be my most complex one) and I’m trying to find original air times for shows. TVRB has me covered for BBC and ITV nicely, but it’s spotty for C4 and pretty barren for Sky One which is the other source I’m using.

A couple of photos of some pages would be super useful. I’m being loose with accuracy to a degree, but the more knowledge I have the better!

And yes, I’m including neighbours in the classic ‘twice a day’ airing configuration. Now to add far too many 90s episodes of it to my server…

Awesome! I searched archive org (a whole lot of my programming which never got dvds etc is coming from there*) but somehow didn’t see that. Did see some newsletter called The Old Radio Times a bunch though, ha. Thanks.

E: when I started looking for stuff it was mid November last year, looks like this was literally uploaded a week or two after. It’s like they read my mind!

E2: and they’ve uploaded a handful of relevant issues.

Look him up and he does the cartoon Pros and Cons that used to be in the comics thread and ended last year. It's mega right wing and god it was weird to see him on TV. I'd honestly always assumed Pros and Cons was done by an american

In case anyone was curious about the schedules I was building up for my dumb pseudo 'all encompassing 90s UK TV station' that's comprised of stuff I can get my hands on, which means sadly leaving a lot of great/awful (but great) stuff out...

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

It's impossible to build something that totally accurately matches original first run air dates, so did my best to match up the ones that came to mind the most to me (ie Red Dwarf on Thursdays), do a few 'I would've been taping ITV while watching BBC then watch that tape during the boring 9 oclock news' things, and just other creative fixes.

The plan is to try and get over say 80% of 'no repeats' content for a year of 'broadcasting', so some time slots get switched out when a show only has say 12 episodes. Luckily with the first series of Home & Away online and people with huge playlists of Neighbours episodes at variably lovely quality there's some daily time slots eaten up nicely.

Think I managed to get the right feeling for where things would've been, the weekday morning slots are mostly dominated by school TV over the years (mainly C4, which changes year from Wednesday to Friday) and what I've been able to assemble/pretend that TV:AM/WAC had as their kids output for Monday. Saturday afternoon was always a good old shiftiest of things like Thunder in Paradise and Robocop, plus stalwarts like A-Team and Baywatch that just kept going.

Didn't want to rely on movies too much (despite that's what real TV did a huge amount from looking through listings), but did a Saturday Night premiere, a C4 late night movie for things like horror and martial arts movies, and of course - the infamous Channel 5 late night Friday soft porn slot.

Overnights were tricky as there's a lot of disposable TV from that era that just isn't available online, and for good reason, so had to use satellite reruns a bit more there and some live US sports that would broadcast at those times.

Next step is filling the gaps in my collection for episodes I don't have, then I'll go about building the commercials and the most fun/difficult - building idents for my fake station.

I know we've talked about it before but it's a little hard to get invested in Pottery Throwdown when Donna is dominating it.

The Canadian one had an interesting challenge last episode which was to make an abstract self portrait. It was good to see something where they couldn't just rely on favourite places/person/animal/memory and have to do something that's purely artistic.

This week's episode loving baffled me as well
I just CANNOT understand why Jan went. I thought it was gonna be between Dan and Dave and then bam, Jan's gone.
Yea hers was cracked but theirs were pretty hosed up, it's so strange to me

Also we've been watching Landscape Artist of the Year. Done series 1/2 and the most recent - which I think is 9. Firstly Frank Skinner is a WAY better host than Stephen Mangan and secondly it's pretty wild how often people come back. Seeing people from other episodes as wild cards just sat painting is strange too. The pot they draw artists from must be legit tiny
