Is there actually anything you can do to stop cars just disintegrating after a decade or two over there? I used to drive my ute on the beach fairly often and spent ages washing and flushing it out afterwards, seems like that would be impractical in a place where you get salt thrown all over it every day and also it's too cold to wash your car.

Of course!

But seriously, you can apply oils like fluid film or krown, avoid parking it covered in salt in a heated garage, and just generally keep the car clean.

You can't stop rust but you can slow it down.

Saturn's plastic body panels only hide the structural rust eating them all from within.

Not all cars here rust out like that Passat. Most makes have figured out rust protection by now. For some reason 2010-era VAG products are not among them.

Classic cars rarely get driven in the winter here though. Salt will absolutely destroy them, plus it's hard to keep anything clean unless the conditions are really cold and dry.

Get a good undercoating and go to a car wash where they have the sprayers you drive over to rinse the undercarriage off like once a week. Then there are certain year ranges of cars that are just straight up garbage, such as the aforementioned VWs and the 90s Mercedes C class. At least in the past, cars that were sold in places like Scandinavia got extra rust proofing from the factory/dealer.

you can actually inflate your scrote pretty safely with sterile saline, syringes, needles, and aseptic technique. its a niche kink iirc

the saline just slowly gets absorbed into your blood but in the meantime you got a big round smooth distended nutsack

is there anything roughly equivalent to a cat on an ev, in terms of valuable and easy to steal quickly? obviously there's shitloads of copper and expensive batteries but those all seem pretty locked up, at least more than "sawzall two pieces of thin wall steel tube"

You could probably wrestle an entire $10k Tesla rear subframe/drive unit loose after removing about 10 bolts and cutting some coolant/brake/electricity lines, but then you’ve got to fence it to someone who wants it, and you’ve got a pretty big problem if you let the electricity out.

Residential charging cables, followed by charging ports. Wreck enough charging ports, vehicle or house side, and it pays for itself x2.

does the drive unit not have a plug? how do they service it? shutoff at the battery?

Think Fast !
The high voltage disconnect usually isn't accessible from underneath, they are either under the hood or rear seats, and most of the other connections aren't things you want to touch while live.

Edit : it's not too much of a problem for people trying to steal your poo poo tho, electric cars have emergency disconnects for firefigthers, you can get at them easily if you are willing to smash poo poo.

If you dropping the rear cradle on model s, you will have enough space to disconnect the main plug, once the subframe is low enough. But nobody's doing it on the street, maybe inside a chop shop

I hate the disingenuous argument about airplane fly by wire safety whenever people suggest it in cars. Those systems are inspected when the plane lands and before it takes off, how many times will the drive by wire system be inspected in its entire life on the road? Probably less than 10, even if you're doing all of your maintenance at the dealership
